ordering a Dell 2209WA at weekend, worth it?

Righto, I've had up until now 24" screens but being ones of the budget variety, I'm now in the situation where I've got £200 to spend on a "quality" screen. I'm not too fussed about losing a bit of screen size, or even going down a res from 1920 x 1200 to 1680 x 1050, I'm primarily concerned with image quality for gaming . Now me question is, is the Dell 2209WA really "THAT" good to warrant the extra cost of say £50, I mean ocuk flog an Acer 24" for £167 for gawds sake. For comparison Im currnetly using a "samsung 245b+ 24 incher and I had a "BenQ G2400WA" before that.
Another alternative is the "Hyundai W220D", another screen that seems to tick all the right boxes as it were.

I want as many opinions on the above to help me decide:):D

My 2209wa ****** from a great height on to my samsung t220. Incredible for gaming and the colour depth is literally breath taking. For £200 its a steal...in the price range there's nothing like it.

I've had mine for months now and it still amazes me every time I game on that bad boy. Build quality and design is also fantastic.
 
Whats the score with the input lag, I take it its not as bad as peoplke make it out to be, or am I thinking of another 24" dell screen?
I must admit, I've been reading some more reviews of this monitor and I'm becoming more convinced its the one for me.
 
Looks great with e-ips screen but not full HD and no support for HDMI. Input lag is average good for casual gaming, however if you play fast paced games such as L4D you need a quicker response otherwise hunter and smokers will get you most of the time.

Do you own one and have you seen this or is that just something you've read? I think most of the people on here who own one say there's no noticeable lag/ghosting

Do they do an equivalent in 24"?

Hi, no I don't own one I'm going by what TFT review sites say both in subjective and scientific testing. Don't get me wrong this monitor is great value for money with and excellent IPS panel and lag that is better than most quality monitors. All depends on you primary useage, if it's for gaming and movies in the 22" range it's the best. If you're a hardcore gamer then you might want something that's a little more responsive. I have a Dell 2006WFP and I know how frustrating it can be when you're beaten by lag :mad:
My next monitor will be the NEC 24WMGX3 - packed with controls that cut lag/ghosting down, should be ordering it in the next few weeks :)

lol well it's one part of the problem for sure, got a razer keyboard and mouse 1ms response times, ati 4870 graphics. Once all my hardware is updated I'll see what percentages of success I get from melee in l4d, I'm expecting a crushing victory :p
 
the input lag on tn panels is due to overdirve, a tech that makes the pixels hange faster but adds a bit of lag, also the conversion circuitry for 32bit to 24bit coulour.

A e-IPS panel dosn't have this lag due to less interfacing circuity required

If you want a simmilar panel type but 24 inch you could go for a dell 2408fpw my flatmate has one of these and it produces a far nicer image than the tn panel sitting next to it

Yep but look at the price.:) Suppose you get what you pay for though.

I was kinda hoping there'd be a halfway house of sorts meself too, a compromise that hits the performance/price mark but as said, you get waht you pay for. I was looking at the acer 24" for £167 yesterday and thinking in terms of value for money, it'd probably be hard to beat, BUT, what is the IQ like, how good are the colours, would I be happy with it and so on, and theres not many reviews about either.
One of the reasons I'm looking at the Dell 2209WA is that so many people rate it very highly and I've yet to see a review that gives it less a than glowing result. This is the reason I'm prepared to go down a resolution and drop to 22" from a 24 incher, I'd rather have quality, not quantity as it were.
 
I'm in the same boat, except with £400 to spend on a dual monitor setup. I'm going to take 2 x 2209WA's over 2 x "[insert generic cheap 24" monitor]". Just seems to be the best value for money on the monitor market right now :)
 
ive got two in dual set up now, well worth it

previously had two samsungs t260hd and dell 2407

the samsungs were rubbish went back after two weeks
 
Right, I've just flogged me samsung 245b+ to mate and I'm now using a dell 17" tft, god its small but the colours are actually quite reasonable and the backlight bleed ain't too bad, and crysis runs like the clappers on it (1280 x 1024 res):p
I'm gonna be ordering the 2209WA tomorrow morning online so it should arrive monday or tuesday and when it does, I'll post back here with impressions.

EDIT: After just posting the reply here, noticed there was a 2209WA for sale in the "B" grade section for £155 delivered, so I've snagged that one! I really hope its just missing cables and such and not chocked full of dead/stuck pixels, though I've been lucky so far with all the screens I've bought in the past.
