EVGA X58 Classified, What PSU?

I Recently purchased the X58 classified MB from the likes of Overclockers (Thanks a bunch), and immediately shot off to search for a PSU, I came up with the usual suspects such as PC Power and Cooling and the Thermaltake 1500w also the Enermax 1250w. Whilst I was searching I stumbled upon (In the EVGA forums) a post about compatibility issues with the above PSU’s with the Motherboard, and how it could be a ‘hit or miss’ sometimes with these PSU’s.

Does anyone have an opinion on this issue as I would very much like one, bearing in mind the system will be used for extreme benchmarking and gaming, (and also if I could, hopefully one day, power my damn house!) <just joking.

I really don’t want to rush out and buy a new one, which could later end up being redundant meaning I would end up using the PSU for some mischievous science experiments. Also anyone know if they can get a hold of the Ultra X3 PSU 1600w in the UK? < for a different build, thanks.

Wow, that's a REALLY nice setup. Totally overkill, but nice. Also, why do you need so much power? 1KW would be enough for the system in your sig, maybe 1.2KW at a maximum.

Yeah agreed, im looking for a 1k-1.2k watt power supply, the 1,6k i mentioned was for a completely different thing involving my own step-up transformer and a magnetic field but that's a different issue, thing is i don't like the Corsair HX one because i don't think its really future proof which is why im mainly looking in the 1000+ range

Why isn't it futureproof? No different to any other 1000W PSU.

But if you don't want the corsair, I can vouch for Be Quiet!. They really are quiet, and they look pretty good too, not that that matters. Top quality modular PSU's, and you can get the 1200W one for a few quid more than the Corsair 1KW.

Yeah, that's the one I was thinking of going for, but im unsure if it would work in the classified motherboard as some power supplies have a tendency to not actually work with the motherboard.

Thanks mate for your help, and everyone else of course, I will do once i get time off work to build the damn thing and get the PSU :)

Pics or it didn't happen :)
I'm certain you dont want a 1.5kW thermaltake. The 1.2kW bequiet looks like the best choice. It's probably worth asking evga for exactly what you need from the psu, I wonder if a good 800W would do it.

doubtfull, 2x295's, 9800gt and watercooling. No way I would even attempt to try powering that little lot with an 800 watt psu.

Besides which the op has obviously got more money than sense :p, so another vote for the be quiet 1200 watt.

The BeQuiet is very good, but is known to be extremely sensitive in regard its rail loads.

You may find that you have to shift the connectors around in order to prevent the unit from shutting down when under an extreme workload, you'll find the right combo eventually, but I've read it can be a little tricky.

I can confirm that the Corsair (HX1000w) works extremely well with the Classified (and with 3x gtx 285s), unlike the Enermax Revolution series and some other Channel Well based units, which apparently have compabaility issues with this particular board.

Though if you're planning on overclocking the 295s, it is advised that you have the 1st card powered by the two hard wired PCI-E connectors and the 2nd card powered by two modular cables but with both connected to the 12V1 sockets on the PSU. This will leave the second 12v rail free for all other system components, including the PhysX card and the extra 12v aux connector on the motherboard.

Silverstone has a 1500w version of their "Strider" line coming out shortly....:)

Does the BeQuiet company go by a different name in America? because i feel i might be missing something here, or is it not available in America? because if it is available, its hard to believe that no one has thought of pairing the two up, as they are both excellent products in their own fields in my opinion.

I think their main market is Europe (units are engineered in Germany) though I gather they have recently expanded to Asia. I don't think they have a much of a presence in the U.S., the odd e-tailer carries the "Straight Power" series, but the "Dark Power" line doesn't seem to be available anywhere over there, they're certainly not re-badged as far as I am aware.

I guess i could wait a few more months, for that silverstone, seen as the i7 975 is also rumored to be coming out soon :O

The beQuiet Dark power will only run on 230v so you won't see them in the US in their current form. Parent company is Listan.
