The "beat my spec" thread!

well looking at wiki super pi is single threaded as i edited above but still should have been around 20 to 24 seconds.

edit: how much did ya spend on this server ?

maybe because I was running orthos ON THAT SAME CORE it might have slowed it down

I'll tun it without orthos next time

the server is used so I can come on here and "BOAST" about it - it is a gift that I got to test for a few days any suggestions about what I can do with it?

np about the 2 sockets will get Linux on there.

So it's not your system? Boasting about borrowing someone else's server seems a strange thing to do. I'd still like pictures of it, haven't seen a quad socket intel board. Its in a rackmount case I take it?

Ubuntu for the win if you haven't used linux before

You know how much this thing costs?

£4,000 I would be senile if I spent that much on something like this
besides the noise it generates reverberates to the other side of the building.

Rackmount indeed 4U - this is a Dell R900 server

internal guts shot would be favourite, but anything would be good.
Interesting benchmark would be to run the folding smp client on it once you've got ubuntu running, as it's well multithreaded. It's a task which your computer might win at out of the other ones here, and it'll contribute to medical science along the way
