Are your local doctors this bad?

Sounds about right.

Took nearly 3 months to get my knee sorted out on the NHS. Joined BUPA as a result. Damaged my ankle afterwards - got an MRI scan and was on a physiotherapy course within 10 days of the initial consultation. Right as rain now whereas my knee still gives me jip.

I don't mind paying the Nat Ins as well though, so that others less fortunate can have access to free health care, even it it is a bit slower.

Less, not wasn't.
Well he wouldn't give an x-ray immediately even when she started to lose the ability to walk.
And she went to him innumerable times complaining of pain, merely unsold it.
Where most people would say "OH MY GOD IT'S AGONISING!" my mother would always say "Yes, it does hurt quite a lot".

All I can say is that you lot are very unlucky. My local doctor is hard to see because both of them are incredibly good. No matter what the problem I can pop in and speak to her and she will do her best, refer where needed etc, the lot. I will be very upset when she retires as she will be hard to replace.

Don't tar all GPs with the same brush

They're all bloody awful. To be honest, getting an appointment on the SAME DAY is pretty good going if you ask me!

If I call my doctor on Monday, we're talking Friday before I can have an appointment, and that's usually with the nurse and not the actual doctor. The nurse gives you antibiotics, whatever the problem is, and you're inevitably back to see the proper GP the following week... IF you can get an appointment before you've got better on your own.

Absolutely dire.

*groan* Their beloved anti biotics that they give to anyone regardless of if it's a bacterial infection or not.

I nakered my knee up and it took them 14 months of utter useless rubbish before they would give me the op to fix it, sent me to physio and everything and even she was saying it needed an op!

My girlfriends brother has been waiting to get a CAT scan for 3 weeks...When on holiday in America my dad had a seizure in a shopping mall, they gave him a CAT scan on the same day, just as a precaution! Although the bill for all that was over $15000, holiday insurance for the win! Also a 4 mile ambulance ride costs $350 incase anyone cant get a taxi

The people who work in them are generally fine; it's just how they're run which is terrible. I know you (OP) feel crap, but rest assured that the vast majority who work in hospitals and surgeries find it irksome as well.

Change your GP practice if you think the one you have is poor - they are paid to carry out checks on patients and frankly have to retain patients.

They are more or less run as private businesses though, there's very few similarities between them.

My new doctors after moving house will always see patients within 48 hours and WONT book appointments more than 1 week in advance - they prefer you call them on the day you need one or the day prior to you being available to go.

My last doctor would make me wait at least 1 week, as they were too busy dealing with mothers, kids and pensioners to see men.

OP timings seem pretty good.
Mine emergency apointments can either be 8:30 to 9, or anything past 5:30. Thats if your lucky to get something.
You used to basically have to book a week in advance but they've aobviously sorted something out.
Its all the asian families witht their 12 children all going to see about a cold (just to sound racist) and old grannies taking up the space.
I know for specialists unless its an absolute emergency waiting times are waaay longer to see someone at the local hospital. But the last time I had to have an xray it was at the Leith community hospital and it was just a matter of walking in at anytime as long as they know you will be there at some point.

tbh if it's that bad go to A&E. If it's not then most likley it can wait and (hopefully) will have fixed itself before you know.

I just want an MOT, checkup etc... He said tht if I wasn't ill I shouldn't waste his time and other people's who need attention?!.

Wierd :S

I recently got myself booked in for a healthcheck at my local GP surgery, I saw the nurse, she checked my blood pressure etc, asked few questions then got me to go for blood tests at the local hospital to see everything was ok.
I always go for a healthcheck every 2 years or so. I've never been turned away.

and 3 weeks wait for an appointment? :0 blimey I only have to wait couple of days.

Well it can wait in the sense that I'm unlikely to keel over and die, but when it's stopping me from working then "it can wait" is easy for you to say...

*imo break your arm... rush into AnE say you think you broke your arm.

Instant x-ray and instant results
