Team GB?

I really couldn't give a toss about it tbh.

Ourselves, yourselves and the sheep-worriers want nothing to do with it. Let the English have yet more disappointment.

It seems really petty that we can't field a fully GB team. All it does is reinforce my opinion that football is full of very silly people.

Why are we the only ones with a team name? Why aren't we Great Britain instead of bloody Team GB?

I am going to take a guess that its something to do with licensing and marketing. I bet you cant trademark "Great Britain" and then sell merchandise with it on, but you can with "Team GB"

My only thinking behind it is that they don't want to see a combined England/Scotland/Wales/NI team as it might lead to calls to scrap the whole 'four teams from one country' aspect in 'professional' football.

And that's a problem why? I still don't know why there is so much opposition to merging the Scottish and English premierships.

Yeah, which would be a good thing!!

"The Scottish, Northern Irish and Welsh Associations recognise that England want to do this and there'll be no further opposition from them to England taking part as Team UK providing they do not attempt to include any Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish players,"

What's the problem with including any British person in Team GB?

We have four votes on the fifa panel, if we merged into one team ie GB, we would have one vote. More votes = more power.

Plus a GB team would be detremental to Ireland, Scotland, and Wales because they would have few, if any players in a GB team, which would mean less people from the revelant countries watching games, meaning less income. TV etc.

Without being to controversial, who would get in the England team from the other colonies. None taht i can think of, unless you know better.

No, i think there must be a better keeper out there somwhere.

A GB team would have won a world cup or two in the 70's 80's and 90's, which would have been great, it would have meant the continued progress of Welsh, Scottish, and Irish football, which in turn would have forced GB's dominance as a combined team on the world stage.

Small minded bigots, and power hungry FA administrators from the four nations prevented this.

Now the only team of any note from the UK is England, which is a shame, because if we had all joined together as one, our strenth would have produced better players for all nations.
And therfore a better GB team in continuum
