Modifying my car...

Well thanks for the input, I'll just leave it as it is for now, on the basis of changing the sound im limited. As the CD unit is seperate from the actual stereo unit in the car, so adding in say a sub and a new faceplate etc would involve a dodgy job, cutting things etc, looks the exact same as this:

Also the car is a 53 plate yeah, but it's only covered 28,000 miles. Which is good for it's age yeah, but also the fact that in those 28,000 miles I've not had one problem, so weather the engine is bad this or that, it's served me well tbh.

I don't normally upgrade the stereo until the car can do 0-60 in 14 seconds or less...

That's pretty low mileage for a 53 plate! How long have you owned it for? Do the Ford stereos come with any phono out or anything at the back do you know?

So an Aluminium Twin Cam 16v engine isn't going to be any better than a 50 year old 8v OHV engine made out of pig iron and tappets made out of fudge? I sold a 1.3 Escort and replaced it with a 1.4 Fiesta and I can actually go up hills without having to jam it in 1st and rev the nuts out of it.

The 1.3 can trace it's roots back over 50 years and is rattly as a bag of bolts in a washing machine. The 1.25 is a development of the Yamaha design that arrived in the late 90s. Huge difference. K, so it's only a 1.25 and isn't going to set your pants on fire, but it's a very capable engine.

Which ever way you want to dress it up, it's still a 14.0 second 0-60 car that tops out at 101MPH That is all that is being said.. it's pedestrian at best..

I did say in a choice of the 1.3 or 1.25, obviously you'd go for the 1.25... or is the problem you feel the 1.25 engine is 'special' ?

I have owned it a year, my father bought it brand new when it came out. From then he sold it to me when it had just over 11,000 miles. That was a year ago. He never really used it as the household has always had 2 cars, and always used his main car, and the other car was just for my mother to run about in if needed. On your second question, i've no idea mate sorry.

Also i've had the car at just under 120 lol :P.

Buy these

Bit pricey I know but it avoids cutting, it will look professional and you can remove it all and sell it on once you sell the car. The Stereo is actually in one piece but the fascia makes it look like three separate units.

I changed the headunit in my car and it made a world of difference. You might wanna pop the door cards off and stick better speakers in the front while you are at it as well. The size of the speaker is 5" x 7".

Aw lol. Got a bit confused thinking it was in three seperate units. Just out of interest do you have a picture of how your cars unit looks? thx

I have a MK4 and to be honest the fascia adaptor is a bit poo but I can live with it.

I need to remove it at some point as it doesn't sit right.

Just to be clear, if you use the normal fascia single DIN adapter plate,

you do have to cut the two 'bars' out of the dash between the stereo unit 'sections'..

If you use the

You replace the whole dash section, so when you sell the car, you can put the old dash section back with the old original stereo..

first thing first, the 1.25 is the best engine in world. why anyone needs anything else is beyond me.

second, get yourself on UKFN, loads of chav'd up examples but there is always those on these owners clubs. do a search for colour coding and have a look in the for sale section, you'll find those subtle mods your after in no time. :)

Anything you do to it will ultimately lower the value of it.

Keep it completely stock, which will make it easy to sell on when the time comes to get a fully painted car.

Aw okay so I would only have to buy whats on the second link there ^? so it can be reverted?

&Thanks for the pic janesy thats the kind of thing im looking for. I take it you have a sub?

And tbh yeah good point on what ethos said im not looking for a faster car (at the moment). But I was just looking for advice really or suggestions, anything really, everyones been helpful so far which was what I originally looked for, the audio thing has been something on my mind but didn't think it could have been done without cutting or tearing things to pieces. But horray a solution :p.

Another question for you janesy, if you do have a sub, when your music is played loud with particularly loud bass, do you get any rattling, such as from the plastic or what not? if so have you found a way to neutralize this? thanks.

No sub and plenty of rattles :p Mainly because I have wind up windows and the handles rattle :( You can get stuff like Dynamat which will help with the sound quality a great deal. As for rattles, an hour tightening all the trim up helps :)

my thought's as well.

why does everyone have to have a fast car ?

Speed isn't the main issue, the Zetec engine is much more refined and when you want to overtake, you can. There's been a few occasions when I tried to overtake in my 1.3 Escort and a couple of times I had to abort due to the lack of power. That 1.3 engine isn't acceptable in a car this side of the millennium.
