For more information, search online..

If was an elderly, computer illiterate person I can almost guarantee that I'd remember "search for *" and not "visit www.*.direct.gov.uk". Even if it was me watching the advert I'd be more likely to search for the product/service than to manually enter its URL.

The bulk of the ad gives you the exposure, the last 10 seconds about how to get to the website is irrelevant to today's generation. But if you're not computer literate the last 10 seconds about how to get to the website might be the deciding factor in whether you do or don't.

As for whether searching yields the right company first or some sponsored links instead, I can only assume the company in question has researched the best way to advertise and decided that this is it.

Since when has the civil service always come up with the best idea ;)

I can relate to this one, working for an ISP.

Trying to get customers to type in the router's IP is fun. They usually type it into the search bar and then proceed to read out line after line of Google search results.

Argh :(

Been there - done that, even spoke to some muppet who couldn't even find the enter key :(

I agree that if you're going to use an appliance, whether it be a washing machine or a computer at least familiarise yourself with the basic controls first. I think my response was the polite version of RTFM !

Thanks Seek - I'm going to Hell for laughing so much at that pic now :D
