Tips for working in a call centre

develop a thick skin very very quickly.

don't take things personally.

when your shift ends, don't take the job home with you.

sorted ;)

Thick skin is absolutely essential. That, and if you're stressed learn to find a quick excuse to take a breather lest you take it out on the next person who gets lippy. :p

The last call-centre I worked in ended up on Watchdog a couple years later, which made me giggle immensely. I never did like that ***** of a boss!

However, in all honestly; find another job as soon as you can. The only thing that'll get you through a day there is either having no ear-drums, personality, or ambition, or the realisation that it's only temporary.

Seriously, there's no job I'd sooner not do again. :(

Pray you don't get a hard of hearing, bad tempered 90 year old world war 2 veteran with a massive house and a speech impediment like i did for my first call after 2 weeks training... :(

Getting the delivery details right was a nightmare!

I always got more polite as the person giving me grief got more angry - nothing seemed to irritate them more.

"This is outrageous?! I'm reporting you to the financial ombudsman!"

"Ok sir - would you like me to get their number for you?"

I only accept incoming calls, i.e only people who want to buy the goods I'm selling

Could never cold call

Sounds like you are just taking orders and not doing an CS type work so you don't need much advice as it will be extremely easy. Only advice I would say is you might want to learn the phonetic alphabet as it's very useful when you are taking peoples' details over the phone, especially when you get people through with thick accents.

Have a laugh, don't tqake anything anyone says serious. Easyiest job in the world, good luck coping with the boredom.

i loved working in the call center for yorkshire bank/clydesdale bank soo many lovely ladies and no hard grafting involved , got sacked for giving a guy a ten grand loan that wasnt entitled too one :S doh lol

Have fun playing with accents, we used to answer the phone trying our best to sound like frank spencer, kenneth williams etc whenever our supervisor wasn't around. You need these little things to stop yourself going mad in call centres lol.
