About 3 weeks ago i went to the local gym with a mate with the intention of joining.

At the time the sales person was all tied up so we both filled in a form with our bank details on and was told we would both get a phone call to sort out the prices etc. Niether of us got a phone call so my mate went in a couple of days later and set everything up. I decided to re-join Virgin Active instead of this local gym.

Anyway, i check my statement today and £25 has been taken out my account from the gym. I went in today and was told i would get a phone call from the manager tommorrow.

Where do i stand? Am i entitled to a full refund or do you think i will have to pay it?

I went back a couple of weeks on my statement and i missed a £14 payment from the gym for the rest of last month.

It's the council leisure centre gym so i presumed they wouldn't take any money out without asking me.

I didn't sign anything.

Stand!? You're going to the gym, do some squats!

If the forms you filled in did not mention any costs etc or text along the lines of 'by filling in this form you agree to Average Joes Gym to charge you x monies', you should get your money back as no amount/contract was agreed on.

Also its worth giving the gym a call up and state what happened, if the managers a nice guy, he'll understand that they should have been in contact with you etc and hopfully organise a refund or somthing.

And as the others said, a bit stupid to give them your bank details before agreeing on anything, even if they are trustworthy, it's easy enough for another gym attendant who's putting in other account details/forms to see/be given yours and put it in without a bit of notice.

fella, you filled in your bank details, they will setup the DD.

If you didnt sign the DD form then you can claim the money back from your bank iirc.
