Who has/had the worst job here?

worked in an abattoir which I think most people would dislike.

One of my closest friends did that for quite a while when he was younger and stuck for work. Some of the stories  Some of the older guys bleeding pigs into the wellies to keep the feet warm in the winter and walking in to see guys peeing up against hung animals.

totally the same here over half of everyone at the company is above retirement age moan and groan or are just plain weird..

Lol was the same, those who weren't pensioners acted as though they were and the company seemed to think that it's biggest claim to fame was that it reputedly had the first Hardinge lathes imported from America after WW2, just about all of the machinery was totally clapped out, for instance most of the stuff we made had to be made to less than a thou tolerance on vertical mills that has about a third of an inch movement in the headstock

Wow, that's just ridiculously sick.

Perhaps if abattoirs actually paid decent wages they'd attract workers with a bit more respect for their quarry.

Yeah as my mate says the guys that do this job year in year out are doing it because they sign their name with an X. One of my mates worked in a mayo manufacturing place, hellmans and he said guys would constantly day in day out stick their knob in a jar and think it was funny. Everytime without fail like it was a new joke.

Worst pay, my brother at 14/15 used to get £2 an hour grinding minced meat into burgers. This local butchers used to by spanish chickens from costco (or equivilant) and sell them as local chickens. Think he got a pay rise to £2.15 after a few months

At 22 I have only ever worked half an hour in my life. I went to spar for what was supposed to be an induction day, where I would learn to operate the tills and such, but instead they had me scrubbing floors. Seeing as they somehow weren't planning on paying me for this, I walked out. I have not worked since and do not plan to, ever.

Not getting a job ever? :p What are you going to do?

Is your ma' keeping you?

I reckon any job where you can wear headphones and listen to your own music has to be better than ones where you have to deal with customers / the public.

I used to deliver 35 Sunday newspapers at about 5:30am and got paid £3.50. Took a good few hours too.

That wasn't my worst job though, I think my worst was probably cash delivery for a company. Delivering cash to cash machines around the country. Would start at any time they needed me, like 3am and then work for a solid 14+ hours driving around.

Then once I had finished that shift I'd get home, collapse and be called to do another shift three hours later. I quit after falling asleep on the motorwey and almost crashing, I told them I was coming back to base as wasn't fit to drive and the boss (ex army) had a huge go at me, I walked out. I was young, stupid and easy to push around but needed the money otherwise I'd end up in debt. Various excuses by the company meant they didn't even pay me properly, I think they went under a few years ago though. :)

Another terrible job I used to do was working for Board Products making those polystyrene shapes that your electrical goods come packaged in. Due to the hot water used in the machines, after a 12 hour shift your hands looked like manky prunes. The same effect you get if you sit in the bath for too long.

pizza factory placing 6 pepperonis on a pizza or squeezing a water spray twice on a pizza as it passed on the conveyor belt, squeeze it 3 times or put 7 slices of pepperoni and your in deep **** :)

I actually went for an interview in a factory when I was younger and the job entailed slicing onions for 8 hours a day, they said not to worry about your eyes watering as you got used to it after a few weeks ... a few weeks of watery onion eyes for 8 hours a day ... man oh man! I walked out after the tour of the workplace

Some of us are older than others and were around before the minimum wage, when i was an apprentice for instance i started on just over £40 per week

Yeah I started before minimum wage, well it was in place but only for over 21s.
That must have been ages ago. Although apprentice has always been poor pay, but usually worth it.
