Speed isn't the main issue, the Zetec engine is much more refined and when you want to overtake, you can. There's been a few occasions when I tried to overtake in my 1.3 Escort and a couple of times I had to abort due to the lack of power. That 1.3 engine isn't acceptable in a car this side of the millennium.

The escort is heavier, so i'd imagine performance to differ.

Secondly let's not get carried away again with the raw power the 1.25 has. When you have a v.slow car, generally you alter your driving style to match.

Which ever way you want to dress it up, it's still a 14.0 second 0-60 car that tops out at 101MPH That is all that is being said.. it's pedestrian at best..

I did say in a choice of the 1.3 or 1.25, obviously you'd go for the 1.25... or is the problem you feel the 1.25 engine is 'special' ?

why would anyone want a 1.25 mk6 then, my mk4 1.25 does 0-60 in about 11 seconds and does 120 with no hassle and is a lot older... hmm odd

do mk6's weigh 4 tonnes or something

come sit in it then? lol ive done 115 in it once and it felt like it would go a bit further, i wouldnt do it again tho it felt like it would take off because it was floaty as hell.
its commonly known that the top speed stats for 1.25 are wrong.

i presume this was an indicated speed, so in reality you weren't going much more than 100

perhaps the statistics are wrong, but there is no way a 1.2 can reach 120mph.

i used to own a 1.25 1998 zetec fiesta.

Due to it having 16valves it was quite nippy, but it was a slow car after 30mph.

Honestly OP, don't bother wasting money on it. I know you are young and in this 'ZOMG MODZ' stage (not in the chavvy way ), but is essentially weeing money down the drain. It will never look exciting and as you also know it won't feel exciting either.

Take it for what it is, enjoy hassle free motoring, then save your pennies and put them towards a better car in the next year or 2. Those thousands spent on mods will add pence to the value, and will do what, give you a slightly better form and shape, and I mean slight.

No it's commonly known that speedos are inaccurate, obtain that with GPS, I dare ya.
