I honestly can't find a thread on this but I must comment as I watched this over the weekend.

What a pile of homosexual ****e!

I think I prefered Meet The Spartans.

That is all. :)

I think you're meant to look at the film purely as a comic book adaptation rather than it being loosely based on a true story, it's completely over the top but the story itself is hard to believe. Steven Pressfield's Gates Of Fire about the same event is an entertaining read although it is of course fictionalised.

Then you sir, are wrong!

Lol, dude, i happened to love the film, but what was you expecting? Its Frank Miller of Sin City fame (or infamy). He puts his twist on it.
Also whereas the spartans were reknowned for taking younger male 'lovers', the film doesn't show or portray any of that. You sure you we're talking about the same film?

I honestly went into this movie not knowing anything about it. Who was in it, who wrote/directed it. If I knew a guy from Sin City was putting his twist over it, I would have avoided it like the plague.

On a positive note though I thought the guy who played Leonidas (sp?) did it very well. If there was that type of powerful character in a film such as, for example Braveheart then it would have been awesome.

mostly blue/green screened cgi. But that certaily wasn't a secret.
Even Meet The Spartans took the pizzle out of it for that.
But then........so was Star Wars!

Not a Miller fan then? :)
Dude, have you been under a rock for the past 18 months or so?
300 was pretty well received when it came out, and i can't beleive you knew nothing about it?
I take it you won't be queing up to see either Sin City 2 OR 300 part 2 when they come out then? ;)

I knew of the film and I knew it had really good reviews from looking on IMDB. It had to be good if there was a complete ****take of a movie made from it :p

But knowing not much about it and going in thinking, this is going to be awesome, it let me down :(

Ohh and no i'm not a Miller fan.

Sin City is the worst film i've ever seen :)

frank miller is amazing, and unlike the other comic book adaptations, sin city and 300 were pretty much spot on
300 was awesome though:D

...for the truth, and for the win! :D

Imagine if they made a movie of Frank Millers, Batman: The Dark Knight? rather than just rip off his title for a film, which tbh was good, but still if they made HIS version.

It was filmed enitrely on green screen. not a single location was used. That was kind of the point.

Spartan culture was very homosexual. They were famous for taking on their younger "padawans" as lovers to tighten the bond during battles.

Historically, from the facts we know, this movie was way, way, way off. However, we can assume you wern't looking for a historically accurate portrayal of events else you'd have known about the whole "We're all bit gay" thing they had going on.

It wasn't all bad.

Yeah, but in Star Wars, solid metal was transparent ;)

I got the Blu Ray 300 free when I got my PS3. It wasn't bad for a free movie, wouldn't have picked it up myself though.

Lol, oh yeah, the sno speeders in Empire? I remember, they fixed that though in the re-mastered versions didn't they?
Yeah, i heard that 300 on blu ray wasn't much to shout about.....shame!

I don't like frank miller tbh...

Sin City was good but I got bored at some points of the film where I just wanted the film to stop.

300 just a bunch unrealistic boring rubbish imo. Even the ''this is sparta'' part is overrated.

I enjoyed it, and I think you have to take it as it comes...as pure kick off ya boot and put ya feet up with a beer entertainment....
