Which card to buy,4870X2 or GTX295?

if your really clued up in this then you would have seen that 2 apps have appeared that use very simple graphics rendering methods and seem to be bringing these cards to their knees.
and the point i have is that there are 2 apps already out there that cause this problem to appear.

are you saying that ati cards are only for gaming only and people with them should not be using furmark or occt?

regardless of the nature of these apps, they are nothing special in much form, they look fairly bland although could make good use as screen savers, never the less id be proper PEED off if i bought a bit of hardware that konked out running any sort of software.

How much does AEG pay you?

I cant see the 84 amp limit making much difference to anything.

If you need a GFX card for running stability tests or dedicate to crunching 100% all of the time then maybe it would sway you to a nvidia card.
If the software you are using requires a serious amount of amps under sustained load, then you would be better off building a dedicated system as its unrealistic to expect any video card power regulation circuitry to put up with that sort of abuse because, its the wrong hardware for the job to start with.

I would go with the cheapest 4870x2 as the 295 is way to expensive.

I thought a question like this would create a massive thread, as the ATI vs Nvidea always does. They are both as good as eachother really, not much between them. If you want to save money, go ATI, if you dont mind spending a bit extra for some extra features, go with Nvidia. I went Nvidia with my new system, simply because I prefer them to ATI, and a quieter fan

For most of us in here, it's not an ATi versus nVidia thing. It's common sense versus stupidity.

Yoy yourself aren't as neutral as you seem to think because it's a case of common sense. The 295 offers barely anything over a 4870X2. It has nothing to do with one being nvidia it's wasting of money.

The difference between the GTX295 and the 4870X2 is less than the difference between the 4870 and the 4890.

If the 4890 was 65% more expensive than the 4870, who in their right mind would buy one?

But when it's between two different brands, the fanboys rear their heads and start windmilling when they hear things they don't like.

They have predjudices against one brand because of their incompetance.

In terms of hardware and software nvidia and ATi both have as many problems as the others. I prefer that ATi release drivers every month, but it's not enough reason to claim superiority.

Most people prefer brands for reasons that don't make much sense. Loads of people prefer one brand because they're 'used' to it, and that makes them rabidly defend their chosen brand.

Slagging off the hardware is just plain rubbish. I have issues with nvidia that I get labled a fanboy for, yet my reason makes so much more sense than the stupid reasons people make up because they're doing it wrong.

I dislike nvidia's business stratergies as do a lot of people, and more and more people are increasingly complaining about it.

But their hardware? Their hardware is fine, their prices are shocking for the most part, but with ATi's latest 4800s they've been forced to lower the prices.

You will see the majoirty of people recommending ATi over nvidia are doing so because nvidia's cards are overpriced for nothing extra.

Comments like 'if money is no object' make no sense either. I've never understood them. So you've got a disposable income, do you suddenly become stupid with money?

If money is no object, why would you still want to waste money? Especially when the performance difference is so small.

It's utterly bizzare, and then to be called a fanboy by the fanboys rabidly defending their love interests confuses me to the extreme.

aye spot on , whats the point in buying something so expesnive when something cheaper can do the job just as well

To be honest I wouldnt buy either of these cards ( 4870x2 or the GTX295)

I would get a fastest single GPU solution ( dont care which ati or nvidia )

Very well put. Its a bit like the iphone hype.
:( what's this I hear then?

I do admit I paid the asking price for an iPhone (pay as you go and then unlocked it), but to be fair, I'm on a contract and my Network (3) sent me out a brand new Sony C905 for continuing my contract.

I sold it on eBay and got £270 for it, so my iPhone only cost me about £120 :D.
