I7 cooler

If your planning on OCing in the future and your budget is only £30'ish then, as above, the Titan TTC-NK85TZ Fenrir CPU Cooler - link

The Titan Fenrir does have a backplate yes and so will require removing the mobo to fit, not sure about the Akasa. TBH any decent cooler which will be any good for OC'ing an i7 will require a back plate to ensure a proper fit and also due to the weight of these things! They are all similarly easy to fit once the mobo has been removed!

edit: check around for dimensions etc as some people have had probs with some of these big aftermarket coolers if their cases aren't big enough! Again, to OC an i7 you will want a decent case with good airflow.

The stock cooler is Ok.. It's a slightly larger version of the one supplied with Core 2 Duo/Quads etc.

I would highly reccomend the Titan Fenrir. It has the best mounting system I've seen on a cooler and it works great.

I've got a CM690 on its way, I think the cooler will fit.
If I dont go down thr road of OC, is the stock cooler upto the job?

If money is tight and you're not planning on overclocking then stick with the stock cooler. It will do the job with a minimum of fuss in a CM690 case.

However, if you plan on overclocking in the future, and you can stretch your budget, then it would make sense to buy the Titan Fenrir now as you will have to remove the motherboard to fit it if you buy it at a later date.

Plus, even if you only get a moderate overclock with the Titan it will more than pay for itself when you look at the prices of the 940 and 965. You could almost regard it as a saving ;)

Is the Akasa Nero good enough? not money issue but size and easy of fitting. i think I will buy cooler for the good reasons given by plec, may not OC straight away but perhaps 6 - 12 months later.

The Akasa will serve you well enough - not as well as the Titan - but enough for a moderate overclock with decent temps. The one downside is that it uses the push-pin method for fixing - i personally loath this method. (but this shouldn't be a reason to put you off getting the Akasa - it just happens to be enough for me as some can be a complete b*st*rd to fit ;))
