no offence, but don't just get something that you think looks cool, because in 2-3 years you'll realise it isn't any more and in fact looks a little pap.

For instance, my friend at work already has a full sleeve and is now getting his 2nd one done and he is getting some characters from Final Fantasy or some rubbish like that. He may like it now but, as he has no emotional connection to it he will probably end up regretting it.

I have had my first tat just 5 weeks ago, and I am really eager to get some more but I am going to make sure I have a connection with it so I know it will be timeless for me!

If you insist on getting something cool, reiger stuff (ALIENS) is very popular. One option would be to say what interests you and what you find cool and have something built around that.

My theory on tattoos, if you don't know what you want, you don't want a tattoo. You only get one when you know a design you life..

i know someone who has the word "B******" tattoed in big letters across his back as he says "it's the last time they see me and i'm admitting to being a complete b******" lol:D

I decided on what I want for my first tattoo a few weeks ago and since then have been watching Miami Ink, LA Ink and London Ink (I like to research and get a good general idea of what I'm getting myself into) and my advise would be to watch them also. Some fantastic ideas and designs that could put you on the right path.

Never get a tattoo that someone has picked for you . . you will only regret it . .

what you should do is :

Find a tattoo you like/want and wait 3-4months and if you still like it,then get it done.

Tribal tattoos are very original and new to the scene they should be your first choice. Never mind that your a)white, b)skinny and c)not in a tribe. Mauri's aren't the only ones that can pull them off after all! Am I wrong! A tattoo that simply says ironic, that would be ironic and you would come across as very witty and ironic. Do it right now. Otherwise get 'regret' tattooed to your skin it would have a similar effect on people. 0.

A girl I used to know got the letters 'your name' above her crotch, to all the boys she liked she said I have 'your name' tattooed above my . . ., It was probably the most crass decision I have seen. This highlights one of the problems with tattoos, people are aware they're semi-permanent and never criticize. You'll get sympathy smiles and laughs and thats it.

"Your name" on your bottom.

Then you can go to bars and say...bet you a tenner Ive got your name on my bum.

Didn't read this on my fist glance through the thread. Its a terrible idea, trust me. I've seen the people that go ahead with this, they always lack even a modest capacity for elegance and graciousness.

It depends, people hear tribal and think of a typical dusk til dawn type of tattoo, however tribal can cover a wide variety of tattoo designs.

I watched Ink Wars last night and it was a tribal theme, really nice designs and looked very good.

There is one tribal design I personally would consider getting, but only after I'd visited the local area and learnt about the true meanings behind them.

I was being sarcastic, however on re-reading my post its not clear. My bad. I'm sure there are some very awesome tribal tattoos however I find they're never 'right' on white people or at least I can't claim to have seen a white guy pull it off.
