That box beside the road where you press the 'Wait' button...know it? Okay well under it there is a little knob (:D :o) and you can twist it. Someone told me that if you turn it, it speeds up how fast the lights change to red so you can cross quicker. :o

Um...this is false right? I just need to check. :o

Absolute rubbish, traffic management would be destroyed if random people could change the cycle timings like that.

Press the big button faster and faster, it knows then that your in a rush and decrements the time remaining time by each unit of time (seconds in this case) corresponding to the number of times you hit it. Really?

No but people do it anyway. :D

Sounds a bit like McDonald's tills where you could flick the switch underneath and turn them off. That actually works though.

its for blind people, it rotates when the lights are on red/man on green. So they know when to cross if theres no beeping

iirc

Yeah, that is an old trick I heard. I've tried it and I believed it's shopped.

I don't believe it's shopped - I KNOW, because of the pixels and from seeing a few shops in my time.

There is a busy junction near where I live with a placebo pedestrian crossing button. It makes no difference when you press it to how often the lights change. They are in a preset order depending to traffic volume and time of day. It amuses me very slightly to see people push the button, usually several times, to try to cross the road quicker.

I was waiting at some traffic lights a few weeks ago near a transport Police station and a Police woman came and hammered the button and it changed instantly. She may have just got lucky though.

This is an urban legend!

Quickest way across a road is to run and not wait for the lights, not recommended mind.

Unless you deaf of blind (or both) this is by far the quickest way across! :D

Come to NI everyone! where drivers un-nessesserally let everyone cross the road, i think the average driver either a doesnt like getting into trouble with the PSNI or b. doesnt have insurance.... Eitherway, traffic lights are their to stop lots of traffic, when theres little you can do it your self (its very dangerous for me as a pedestrian back in the UK....)

if your driving, and lights are on red, flash them with your lights and they might change green :D

pressure sensitive pads are on the road where the first car stops aswell, rock backwords and forwards in your seat to try and trigger them, most cars arent quite heavy enough.

there suposed to be for fire engines so when a fireengine touchs them the lights go green ;)
