The company I work for is going to start to sell caravans, in about a week or so myself and a collegue will have £120k at our disposal to buy in stock.

Could anyone here tell me on average how many sell in a week, how many you have in stock at one time & what is the best sellers?

After doing research & after buying in a 2 & 4 berth the 4 berth has sold and we still have the 2 berth, also from getting a few enquiries I find that 4 & 6 berth caravans seem to be the most popular, would I be right in saying this?

Anyone also sell motorhomes, just want to know how these are selling at the moment & what the stock turn around on these are.

Thanks

I have done plenty of research - do you really think I would be given 120k for nothing!? I am just trying to get someones opinion who sells it day to day, its all well and good doing research, but I find peoples opinions & experience much greater use than that on paper.

A friend of a friend owns a motohome sales business (which also hires and does repairs) - It was a large business usually with around 80-100 motorhomes on site and more stored off-site.

His motorhomes are more mid-high range and he doesn't sell too many second hand models - 80% stock is new Geist, Knaus and Dethleffs (All very good makes - priced £35,000 - £120,000)

He was selling about 1 every 2 weeks at the height of the debt/spending spree (about 18 months ago) - now I would say he sells about one every 4 weeks. If you get a site with spares/accessories and repairs/hire - you might make a bit more than just sales on motorhomes (which are very dependant on how the economy and weather is doing).

But that's just my opinion - and I don't know him well enough to ask (but I would visit his business every couple of weeks for a look around)

Also with the increase in the baby-boomers and a generation of OAPs who enjoy holidaying in the UK (and can't afford the ridiculous cost of tacky Europen holidays these days) - you might want to consider small/cheap 2 berth motorhomes that are easy for couples to buy/drive and enjoy ;)

Get some Wennebagos in :P

Thats my input, i know not helpful, but 120k seems a little low to get some decent stock amount in, or do i just think motorhomes are more expensive than they actually are?

Oh I agree, if put to the task to think about topics one would see in GD though, I don't think caravan sales would have ever entered my mind :p.

I can state anything I like, hell it beats just stating "why bother posting on here" attitude

simplez

but it's utterly pointless as your just stating an opinion based on nothing which could be wildly inacurate, hell I could say he should get none as they'll never sell as I think camper vans are the spawn of satan.

This was exactly the point I was making in my origional post, using this forum for market research before spending 120k on something is madness especially when this isn't the forum of overclock-my-camper-van.co.uk

Although caravan sales are supposed to have increased dealers are still going out of business. The Discover Group appears to be disintegrating with some rapidity ATM.
Its not just about selling caravans, its about selling half decent vans or you will be destroyed by warranty claims.
The biggest enemy of a caravan is called water ingress, after all, a caravan is really a strip of bacofoil stretched over a balsa wood frame (not really but almost).
In order to make sure the vans you buy and then sell dont reappear on your forecourt next week surrounded by very angry buyers you will have to put in place some expert inspection.
The older the caravans you buy in the higher the risk of water ingress and such delights as floor delamination.
You also have to look at other spin-offs. Dealers are expected to offer servicing of vans and to have an accessory shop.
Lastly what are your nearest main caravan dealerships like. You really dont want to become Arthur Daily Caravans of North Yorkshire.

I've sold caravans in the past when we used to have a filling station. Dont buy in any two berths, you'll soon have a pitch full of them anyway as everybody is looking to ditch their 2 berth caravan and get something bigger ;)
