Biggest and quietest case available?

cool can anyone point me to stuff/products about this elastic mounting/rubber grommets? Think I've got some of the rubber grommets if we're thinking about the same thing. So is elastic or rubber better?
Elastic mounting is of course much better because it absorpts practically all vibration, it's like hanging something on rubber band...
Mechanically it's just not the safest mounting method and you would have to make sure materials are such that they don't deteriorate: In other forum someone said that he had attached fan to heatsink with two rubber bands and few days later one of them had already broken. Should be easy to think what failing of suspension could do to HDD...

Soft mounting with rubber grommets is compromise between it and hard metal to metal mounting and absorpts some vibration while retaining physical holding ability.

Downside is that it won't stop all vibration so vibration proofness of case is still important.

Was just thinking of going nutz and putting the hdds in a japanese gup silent box ;) anyone tried them yet ? id only have concerns about the hdd temps though....

For a quiet case I can't recommend elastic mounting the HDDs enough.

I did it the other week and it's so much quieter!

Nice work, I think I noticed the biggest difference with a 74gb raptor myself.
That's natural because its agressive seeks cause lot of vibrations which are greatly amplified by case.
Vibration caused by rotation of even slightly unbalanced spindle is other such strong noise source.

Need for mechanical decoupling makes it always very hard to conduct heat away from HDD inside anykind box so that's definitely risk.
Acoustic or anykind foams aren't exactly good heat conductors...

I have the 2002c version with the internal copper plates and heatpipes.
Really nice - I have my raptor inside mime - much better then the silentmaxx enclosure I also have. Both in my current build linky
For best results bungee the enclosure.

Use full size HHD only - 3/4 depth version get hot inside as they will not touch the plates.

I managed to get around this issue by elastic mount my F1 drive in front of a slow spinning (500rpm) 120mm fan, the drive never goes above 30 degrees even when defragging. :)

Excuse the wires everywhere... :o This machine is quieter than my watercooled machine so this one gets used more.

getto cooling for the win :D
Is that an abit chipset cooler on the case floor? Where's the heatpipe going?
Well spotted, the heatpipe goes to my SB as my SB used to get really toasty with the standard gigabyte heatsink so I pulled the NB cooler & heatpipes from a broken Abit awd9max(?) motherboard and bent the heatpipe into shape so it would fit into my case. I also used the MOSFET heatsinks from around the CPU but you cannot see these in the photo due to the CPU cooler being in the way.

Zip ties, gaffer tape, elastic, and twisted copper wire, it all works a treat! ;)

love it, not the best looking setup though! reminds me of the cars at the start of pimp my ride.. v.ghetto and held together with duck tape and rubber bands!

My car is even more ghetto, it seems to be help together with gaffer tape! ;)

When making this PC I just wanted it to be quiet, I don't really need a pretty PC. The case stainless steel and doesn't have a window plus it spend most of it's time tucked away where it can't be seen or heard so I'm more than happy with it. :)
