Does this picture indicate the gfx is going to heaven?

Taken by my brother down south who's experiencing 'problems'

Its a AMD3200, 939 Motherboard, 6800GT, 2GB RAM computer that I built for him way back...

I apologies for the poor monitor he's using....told him countless times to get a new one.

He did take out the GFX to find it was loaded with crap on the fan, so do you guys think its deaded?

I've spec'ed him these to upgrade, if it all fails...

He is strapped for cash at the moment so I think that above is pretty good value?

I would get him a used 8800gts. I just sold mine for £40 to a mate - Normally they are worth £50 iirc.

The 4870 for under £100 is a very good deal.

Will a new 'age' card be ok on this motherboard?

Maybe I'm just trying to get him to upgrade, but if he can use a good GFX then he can spend the money on more ram perhaps.

But is it a case of making do, or does he take the expense and have a relatively update system?

that mobo can take pci-e graphics cards, so i'd go with the previous mention of an 8800gt, or any recentish graphics card available in members market (ati 3850/3870, nvidia 9800).

what size/res can he get on that monitor ?

Probably about the size of your thumbnail!

Actually it can do 1024x768, and all he plays is Steam games Day of Defeat etc....

I will have a looksy in MM then.
