You could phone them up and say you prefer their network due to past experiences/reccomendations from friends, but that you have been offered a much better deal with O2 or Orange, and ask if they can match it to get you to sign up.

If they say no, just stress the fact you will be taking a contract with their competitors, as they cannot offer the same deal. Obviously be ready to give details of the "offer" that the other network made, but don't make it something completely unbelievable.

The other option would be to take out a contract with them, then phone a few days later to "cancel" the contract as you've been offered a much better one. Same process as last time, except this time you're already with them, so they're more likely to try and keep you. As far as I understand it, you have 14 days from the day you take out the contract to cancel it, so you shouldn't lose much, if anything if they don't budge. Just cancel it and see what else you can find.

Good luck :).

This is only available on contracts agreed over the phone or online - do not attempt this with a contract signed in a store - there is no return on these.

All other advice is sound though. You should try it :).

Sneaky idea. If i cancel is there usually a charge involved?

Right of cancellation

3.1 If You are purchasing the Goods or Services for private use (i.e. as a consumer as opposed to for business use), You have the right to cancel any contract completed within 14 days of receipt by You of the Goods or Services ("Cancellation Period").

3.2 If you do cancel a contract you must:

3.3 either notify us in writing to V-Store Ltd, Network House, Globe Park, Marlow, Buckinghamshire, SL7 1LY, United Kingdom, by email to [email protected] or by phone on 08700 770 020.

3.4 retain possession of the Goods.

3.5 take reasonable care of the Goods or Services until We collect the Goods from You, or You deliver the Goods to Us; and

3.6 ensure that the Goods are returned or are made available for collection (as the case may be) in the same condition as it was when it was delivered to, or collected by, You (as the case may be).

3.7 If You do cancel a contract, then We will notify You of when We wish to collect the Goods. We will collect the Goods or Services within 21 days of Our receiving notification of cancellation. We have the right to charge You for any direct costs incurred in collecting the Goods and will, at Our option, deduct these from any sum owed to You. Alternatively, if You wish, You may return the Goods to Us, during working hours, at Our nearest place of business, details of which can be obtained on Our Website (http://www.v-store.co.uk/) or by emailing us at [email protected]

3.8 If you do cancel a contract, we will refund the monies you have paid to us within 30 days of you giving us cancellation notice.

I guess that means there isn't a charge, they might be sneaky and put an admin charge in there, but if they do it can't be much.

I don't know for sure though, so I'm no help.

I don't think they can charge anything. The only reason the return policies are there (and the reason it is 14 days) is because of the Distance Selling Regulations 2000 (and who said the EU doesn't give us any benefits?!). They cannot charge you anything - they are supposed to refund postage costs but that's probably a step too far. Especially in the circumstances of being sneaky :p.
