I'm pretty sure this used to happen on older BMWs that i've had the pleasure of driving.

It doesn't seem to do it on mine which I think is odd. My friends E46 330ci does it.

Is it broked? :(

if your car has it, then you have to flick the mirror adjustment switch to either left or right for it to function, i can't remember which.

I'm not sure you have to have the adjustment switch set to the passenger mirror.

What exact model do you have?

Oh and i dont think it did it on the 530D and M5 that i've also driven, so might just be a 3 series thing

It only works on E46s with electric memory seats afaik. Does you E60 have manual or electric seats?

My E60 M5 did it as does my E92 M3.

some setting somewhere that i never quite fathomed out as the E60 stopped doing for a while, but never worked out how i 'fixed' it!

It has both (well half and half).

My friends is manual seats too, completely.

I dont think it has anything to do with the seats, as both the 5 series cars have full electric seats and i noticed the M5 didn't dip the mirror whilst reversing.

I didn't think they made a 330ci with manual seats? What year is it?

EDIT: I've double checked and only e46s with memory seats have those mirrors that dip, so you must be mistaken.

It may well be different on the E60 though.

according to the E60 UK catalogue, this is only in conjunction with fully electric memory seats (incl. steering wheel)

Yeah you have to do this on my Mercedes, the switch has to be on passenger or it does not auto adjust for seeing the kerb when reversing, or auto dip.

May be the same with BMW?

He has an X reg sport which isnt really a sport. It definately doesnt have electric seats and the first thing he mentioned to me was his dipping rear view mirror. I've also been in a 4 door saloon with manual seats which had this feature.

Maybe I should read the manual.

It's obviously not the end of the world, but if it is what used to be a fairly standard feature in older cars then this is EPIC HOMOGAY on BMWs part.

(which is the same in e46 models, at least after 2001)

regarding your Ipod question on the other thread.

i have now bought a 16gb USB memory stick and copied my itunes on to it and now leave this in the car. its probably cheaper than the ipod lead, as it was only £18 anyway and means that i can leave it in the car permenantly. works great through the idrive with folder displays etc.

My e36 328i has electric seats but no dipping mirror on reverse despite electric mirrors.

My e38 had similar electric seats but had a dipping mirror and I really miss that feature.

Germans!
