Bit of a rant here, but i'm fed up, need to change my life and wouldn't mind some advice!

Im currently stuck in a terrible, boring, low paid job at a well known DIY store in ops office/warehouse and i've just about had enough of it. Work my arse off 6days a week and can barely afford to pay the bills in a tiny studio flat, and can't even afford to tax my car at the moment. Ive just turned 21 and my parents recently moved to France which is why I rent a flat.

Trouble is I have no experience in anything else, and dropped out of college a few times. Despite having fairly reasonable GCSE grades I just couldnt get on with further education. It seems all job adverts at the moment (the few that there are) require experience in this, that or the other so I really dont know what to do!

/rant over...

bite the bullet and get some form of qualifications.

are you currently living on your own? to save money you could live in a shared house. or even move back in with your parents and study en France?

You're lack of anything at college/university is going to hold you back mate, you need to get something as you don't have experience to compensate with.

Agree with Ben really, you need to sort out your home life first, get into shared accomodation or see if you can go over to France and study there whilst living with your folks, doesn't sound like your happy with the status quo, so the only option is to change it yourself matey!

I was in a similar rut when I was 18, fortunately got myself onto an apprenticeship through asking local companies and working for pennies - I had my folks to live with though or I'd no doubt be one of the many long term unemployed.

go to college, or join the armed forces.

3 months of being shouted at is probably well worth it.

Have been in a similar situation for the last twenty years after messing up badly at school and failing every thing and ending up stuck in numerous dead end jobs, but i have just finally got around to pulling my finger out and am starting uni as a mature student in September to try and get some qualifications and eventually a job that pays more than minimum wage (ideally self employed though)

Have you considered learning a trade? Plumber or electrician perhaps.

Don't worry, learning Polish is optional.

royal marines whre its at :D selection on tuesday. Much better job then an accountant imo :P (well at least its not boring)

Considering everytime someone asks for career advice because they are in a dead end job and the armed forces are recommended, does that mean it's just full of average educated people who cannot hold a job and see the armed forces as a last resort, as opposed to people who actually want to be there in the first place and are passionate about it?

more likely its full of people who think its so great that they want to recommend it at a given opportunity. If it was a last resort and nobody really liked it doubt they would recommend it.

although one reason im applying is because i lack direction :D :P and love adventure like most young people i suppose
