Thanks :)

I used a 400D, reversed 50mm f1.8 and the built in flash (with diffuser) for some fill flash.

what do you mean reversed?
I've been looking at macro lenses as well, not sure which would be the best to get(for a resonable price). sure the canon ef 180mm l lens prob the best but also very expensive.
is the ef-s 60mm any good? seen it used at reading branch of lce for £199(6months warranty unlike ebay ).

I mean reversed, as in mounted backwards using an adapter. It's nowhere near as good as a dedicated maco lens due to a few drawbacks:

Very close focusing distance
Can only focus at a certain distance, a real macro can focus anywhere from 1:1 - Infinity
Dark viewfinder due to having to manually set a constant f/stop

The 60mm is a good lens, but for £40 more (new) the extra length of the Tamron 90mm makes it a better choice in my eyes and the 100m Canon even better again if you can afford the extra.

I've read and seen a lot about the tamron 90mm, its meant to be a very good lens for the money as is the sigma 105mm.
i have the tokina 100mm and think its on par with the other two lenses.
As far as macro lenses go i dont think there is a bad choice from the top 4, Nikon being the best if you can afford it, with tamron, sigma and tokina all at the same level. non of them proform badly.

I believe all 3 mentioned lenses have a manual aperture ring, which is handy if using manual extension tubes, lenses like the sigma 150mm don't have a manual aperture ring so auto extension tubes would need to be used for easy aperture changing.

you mean there's other camera brands besides nikon? stop talking crazy fool :)

sorry my bad. you can get the 3 lenses in canon mount, tho if i had canon gear and wanted to get into macro photography i'd save up for the MP-e 65, possibly the best macro lens ever made.
I did consider selling up my nikon gear just for this lens but it wasn't really a viable option.

The MP-E is awesome and all, but then you really need an MT-24 as well to get the best out of it and you can't use it as anything other than a macro lens.

Still want one.
