Latest phones - need help choosing

Hi guys.

I love creating themes for my Sony Ericsson w910 using the Theme Creator software. The Phone died. I want a replacement phone and I'm not bothered about it being a Sony Ericsson brand. So all you Nokia, Samsung, HTC owners, can you tell me if there's similar software to use with your phones or are you stuck with just changing wallpapers? Recent phones I've seen that look quite appealing are the Samsung HD Omnia, Tocco, Nokia N97 and those from HTC.

Best bet is get yourself down to a local mobile shop and have a play with some handsets.

Especially if your contemplating touchscreen, see which interface you get on with best.

a lot of people do custom themes for loads of different phones so there must be similar software out there, I just use other peoples efforts rather than try and do me own

Personally, I'd go for the N97. It's not out until the end of the month though.

I've got a sneaky feeling if I go down to carphone w/house or wherevever, the sales assistants wont even have a clue what I was on about it "Yes you can change your wallpaper Mr Rancid"

Or maybe they're quite knowlegeable these days? But maybe I do need to play with a few handsets...

I generally find I know more about there handsets than they do and that's with never playing with one in the flesh before.

Half the time they just quote what's written on the info card and if you ask them a semi difficult question they phone the company and ask them or check online.

You might be lucky though, they do sometimes although very rare have somewhere there who actually knows there phones.

Doesn't adding themes still require the jail breaking (and therefore theoretically voiding the warranty) of your iPhone? Certainly seems that way with my iPod touch.

You said hardest to install a theme on, jailbreaking is totally reversable and undetectable and back to the original point v.easy.

It's also an extra step that is unnecessary on any other phone and how to do it isn't immediately obvious to new users. Future firmware updates could also disable the jailbreak.

As I said, the iPhone is the hardest phone to install themes on, no matter how easy you, as a technically minded user, think it is.
