Ww2 fps from the german perspective

hmm interesting

personally i dont have a problem with it

but i dont think it will go down too well with other people

my grandpa rages when he see's me on the Axis side. I tell him theres 2 sides to every war and that I can't play without an opposition. But for some people its really set in, you can't change it. It'll be different in generations to come.

I've always wondered how people who fought in WWII/Vietnam etc. must feel when they see younger generations these days actually playing out their battles for fun as a game. It must feel a bit weird watching your grandchild having a laugh playing out a situation you watched friends die in.

I can understand it, but at the same time without the games many of our generation wouldn't have any interest in history whatsoever.

Whether it's better to know none of it than the warped impression the games give is another question. I think it's better that they give both sides of it, fact is that however nasty the Nazi party was, and the SS did some pretty bad **** - most of the normal soldiers (on both sides) were just young men, fighting because of propaganda and because they were ordered to.

But yeah, there were some pretty horriffic things in every war - I don't know how any soldier copes with it. Same goes for the lads coming back from Afghanistan etc.

Ha, reminds me when we were penalised in EVE for calling our Outpost "Russia in Winter" when we were under siege from Red Alliance for a few months.. the only Russian Alliance in the game (at the time, anyway) :p

IL2 has had a very large following from the Axis side since launch, never had any issues with it nor has the community as a whole if you ignore the occasional lunatic.

At last, every war has two sides. Many gamers have got bored with WW2 games because it only ever seems to come from one side's point of view. I would be interested in playing this.

WWII Online: Battleground has been running for eight years now and of course there would be no war without the Axis. They even have their own high command. I play Allied myself but many prefer the dark side. ;)

What isn't allowed though is any reference to the Nazis and the squads are not allowed to use any SS oriented names due to legal issues in certain countries.

In DOD, they were referred to as the axis. Also in RTCW iirc.

They are refered to the Axis in WWIIO because the game is supposed to expand to include other protagonists, although we still await the Italians ;). The Germans are referred to in the game for personas, town ownership etc.

There are german campeigns in COH and no one has really said andy thing about that

Jesus christ if anyone honestly kicks up a fuss about this, ban/kill them.
Good to see stories told from the other side tbh, a lot of them were just ordinary people forced to war under threat of jail/execution.
