Hi All,

A friend has asked me to spec a PC. All they're going to really use it for (other than internet and email) is to watch TV programmes and video's. No editing.

Their prime requests are good monitor and storage space.

Budget is £1000 all in.

I don't know anything about TV cards so if I may ask for your advice on that.

Thanks as always, James

I would just build the cheapest PC possibly - talking £200+ don't need anything better than that for internet/email otherwise it's just a waste of money.

Then they could buy a decent LCD TV for TV & Films with that sort of budget, talking 50" LCD TV+

i'd go with this, any reason he wants to do it all via pc ?

Based on your op, noise is going to matter as much as performance. Don't put it in the 300 for that, choose one of the antec p series with a quiet cpu cooler and psu.
Overclocking doesn't make that much sense here, how about undervolting at stock/slightly overclocked speeds?

Strange psu choice. I'd suggst visiting silentpcreview and picking one of their recommended ones instead. Similarly graphics card, a really crap one will do what you need from it and won't make noise. I'd suggest one of the passive cards.

Finally, seasonic have a nasty reputation for unreliability. It appears to have only plagued a few of their drives, but it's enough that I won't buy them

Watching TV and films...

That should be silent ;) Could also opt for the AMD Energy-efficient 'e' series X2 processor e.g. 4850e (available elsewhere)
