Final Fantasy 14 Online

Believe me, 11 was terrible.

One to avoid most likely.
I played it for years right through to end game. Its the best MMOPRG I've played by far... and I've played a lot of MMORPGs since the original Everquest.

It had its flaws yes, but it was by far the most rewarding MMORPG and it is one of the only MMORPGs to not throw instant rewards at you for doing absolutely nowt.

It had the best community and distinction between jobs, which made you feel actually worthwhile in a party. Unlike most MMOPRG where you can pretty much just smash your way through mobs without any real skill or tactics.

I'm really excited about this game, more so than Knights of the Republic because you can be certain SE will have learnt so much from years of work on FFXI.

Why do so many people hate FFXI Online then eggyoke?

That's a genuine question btw, as I've said I've not played it.

There must be some things it does terribly if very few people can say as many good things as you have.

The people who generally hate it probably try to solo a lot and so face the grind alone and get bored quickly, miss out on the combined attacks and general extra fun that grouping and playing with other people can provide.

I was one of them in Final Fantasy, got bored after a couple of very tedious sessions :)

I will be positive here and assume Square-enix will have learned many lessons from their previous MMO - as well as applying the lessons they've seen in action from other MMOs such as World of Warcraft and Warhammer Online. It might be a good game after all.

I hated it due to the rubbish ui, awful combat system, console centric type controls and pre everquest 1 graphics. It looked and felt absolutely shocking.

Final Fantasy XI Online is absolutely brilliant. One of the best games I have played in a long time.

Final Fantasy XI is quite different to a game like World Of Warcraft due to the fact that it requires you to interact with other players to progress through the game. This, inevitability, requires a bit more time on your part.

I personally can't wait for Final Fantasy XIV Online.

You would not have asked that question during the time when FFXI was first released in the states and later in the EU. Thats because people where playing it and enjoying it.

Its the same with WoW to a degree. People left WoW en masse and there was an influx of people hating on it.

Another major reason is that World of Warcraft was the first MMORPG for many people and its incredibly difficult moving from a game that throws instant gratification at you for doing absolutely nothing, to a game that requires actual teamwork, skill and knowledge of your job and the game world to progress.

I played WoW upto level 40 and I struggled to get there because there was no sense of purpose for leveling, everything seemed to be availible to you from the get go.

With FFXI you had to, admittedly, work-hard for what you achieved and so when you did, it was a really rewarding feeling and offered incentive to go further. I'm talking about small things like making the first trip to the big city of Jeuno, reaching level 30 and going on the mission to unlock the adv job etc.

I fully admit that FFXI took time and dedication to build-up your character, especially level 60+. However, it brought you closer to people because you basically needed eachother. It made for a great community and I made some great mates from all over the world. The only game I can say came near to that was Everquest.

The only subscription based MMORPG that has got money from me beyond the 1 month free is FFXI. It was great, huge, long and difficult, but ultimately it was it's downfall, it just took too much time and effort in comparison to what i was prepared to put in.

The fight against the dragon was the moment i though 'right that was one of the coolest things ever, but it's taken me 50 hours to get to it and i bet the next moment will take just as long, time to play more instant gratification games'.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it and look forward to this one.

hear hear, FFXI was brilliant

im just scared about buying FF14 because of the "200 and something days of actualy play time" i clocked into 11 :D

lol at most people slating FF XI when they likely know very very little about it.

They reason a lot of people say its rubbish is because it actually required effort to do anything. You couldn't solo to 75 on quests like in WoW.

Everything eggyoke says is completely true. FF XI is still one of the best true MMO's IMO.

To me the most attractive thing about XI is that due to the complex playstyle/ difficulty and learning curve there are a very small number of idiotic children playing it which spoils a lot of online games.

If XIV takes XI's gameplay and difficulty updates the graphics (although XI still looks amazing with a few registry tweaks) and gives a customisable UI then it will be fantastic.

WTB more 18 hour boss fights!!

I loved FFXI, despite some of its flaws - such as not being able to level solo for the most part! That was very frustrating. Will be interesting to see what this one has in store as I have been wanting to get into an online game again recently. I imagine this won't be out for ages though :p

Beastmaster was fun to play tho! Quite a challenge solo as well. BST/WHM :D

The last one had a lot of charm and polish, but it was a very old school mmo, and very, very much of the asian grind mould.

Be interesting to see what they do with a sequel, but I won't be holding my breath, life's too short :)
