Travel Insurance

Moneysupermarket and travel insurance confuses me to death, I run a quote through and get 500 companies I have never heard of all offering the same cover at the same sort of price and therefore have zero idea who to buy from :(

Direct Travel have always served me well - made a couple of fairly high value claims with them over the years (camera and snowboard) and had no problems whatsoever. I used to work for an insurer and so many of them hardly cover anything, you really have to scrutinize the policy before you and can tell this so don't always assume cheapest is best.

Thanks for all the replys. Which level of cover would you normally get from direct-travel Volcs?

Just looking at it, even the platinium is quite a good quote for me compared to what I found elsewhere :)

Also just looking through the ins and outs of the platinum policy there is so many loopholes for them not to pay you.

One thing that worries me is I'm bringing my DSLR Camera and the 'Personal possessions' cover is £1,500 BUT they limit it to £200/Item, my bag cost nearly £200 alone lol.

Also might be an idea to check your bank account to see if they do any kind of special reward? It might be a long shot but I have a reward account with my bank, costs about £12 a month and gets me travel insurance, mobile phone insurance, credit card cover, car breakdown, etc etc.

When we got travel insurance last year we got a better deal getting an annual cover instead of just for the time of the holiday. The cover was much better, plus repatriation costs and the level of replacement of expensive, individual items. Plus, it covered us for any further weekends away for the rest of the year even though we never left the country again.

BTW if you're traveling in Europe, don't forget your EHIC.

Hmmm, that isn't great you're right - sure it was £500 when I took it out with them a couple of years ago. Good spot - see what I mean about reading the policy!

Other than that it's quite good, and I can get worldwide camera insurance for a year from some where else for £30~ so in total that works out as £80 which seems OK.

Who did you get the yearly cover from yermum?
