Road resurfacing rawr!

The road outside my house was resurfaced a few days ago, with that cheapest shtuff, where they pour down tar and then pour gravel over the top, essentially the children's TV "PVA some card, sprinkle glitter over the top, and tip the excess off" of road surfacing.

This stuff damages paint, and slows you to a crawl (10mph) for the entire stretch for about a month. This is the main road I travel out of my village on, and they've resurfaced about a mile stretch. We pay road tax for the government to service and maintain the roads we use to a respectable level. If they fail to deliver a satisfactory service, why should we pay? My nearest town has recently had a few roads resurfaced in nice racetrack quality tarmac, which makes it all the bitterer.

Count yourself lucky that yours got resurfaced, all the roads round me are lacking in smooth and overflowing in holes. They havn't even bothered to fill them up.

get a bucket of sand and DIY :p

Well, instead of being able to do 30MPH over a bumper road, avoiding the pot holes, we now have to crawl at 10MPH over a smooth gravel driveway for a mile. Rawr, why can't they just resurface with tarmac, this happens every year or 2, the same shtuff used. I'm sure it would work out cheaper for new tarmac every 5 years or something??

Local road got done the other day, the road is now smooooth, a good cruise compared to before bumping over every hole and such. Makes all the difference for people with sports suspension especially :D

I have TEIN's on mine, had them setup by my mechanic who has tuned british touring cars ;) The main important point with suspension for going over bumpy roads is to make sure it's soft enough so the wheel never leaves the road surface. Luckily my shocks are adjustable, so if I'm driving country, I'll soften them up, if I'm going fast-road/dual carriageway, I can firm them nicely.

I wouldn't consider my village to be that "country" though, it could easily be a suburb of the nearest town, it's well lit all over etc, just the road needs a decent surface!!

From what I understand that is actually the best road surfacing. The ready mixed stuff they just pour off the back of a lorry is apparently the bad stuff.

Yep it's a cheap way of resurfacing the roads but at least they're doing something.

Unfortunately I now have a crack in my windscreen from a stone hitting it!

They've just done most of the roads surrounding my office in this way, and it really p's me off...

There's a big sign saying "SLOW - WET TAR", when all they've done is empty a large amount of loose gravel over the already uneven road surface, then bugger off. Hardly what I'd call a thorough job.

Consider yourself lucky they only resurfaced it. Surrey county council has hired a right bunch of charlatans to do some "essential bridge repairs" on the A24 through Dorking. It seems bridge repairs involves digging a huge hole in the road then stand around drinking cups of tea all day.

The best part is they put up signs in January saying work starts here for 16 weeks, we get to week 15 then they change all the signs to say 27 weeks  It seems the delay is because they forgot to factor in that they also needed to dig a massive hole on the other side of the road too /facepalm.

Meanwhile it took me 90 minutes to do the 20 mile drive home on Tuesday

Think these are the charlatans in question: http://www.ringway.co.uk/page.php

I got that, 2 weeks after getting my new car! 2mile stretch i have to drive to and from work was done, and was following a lorrie at 20mph. Was at a decent distance too.

Worst Highways Authority ever.

They honestly are the bane of my life. They resurfaced a couple of main roads near me the other day but didn't dig up the original surface. As a result all the drains and manhole covers are now three inchs below the road level.

In other words they resurfaced the road and made it more bumpy than it was before.

Be lucky you still don't have cobbled streets near you. Didn't really think we had any cobbled roads left, but there were a few in small residential areas in Bolton. God knows why they haven't been tarmac'd.

lol, it's a rather shocking job they have done down by Shottery.
