my breakdown cover just expired and as i currently drive a banger i thought i might take up HSBC on the plus account, as it comes with breakdown cover, which is quite pricey for my car

£9.95 for 3 months and then £12.95 for the remaining 9 months = £146 i think i can get £50 quidco cash back if the over is correct knocking it down to £96 for the year. also comes with a few other perks including travel insurance and free money withdrawal.

anyone else use it and think its worth the dosh,

I have it for theses 3 reasons:
  • Free worldwide travel insurance including winter sports for you and your family.
  • Free breakdown cover
  • No charges for taking money out abroad (a big plus for me)

I paid £6.49 for the first 6 months, then £12.95 for every other month.

Have you looked to see how comprehensive the cover is? I bet it's not as good as a stand-alone policy....

These pay bonus accounts dont wash with me, you can get AA breakdown cover for about £10 after Quidco and travel insurance is a pitance to buy anyway, alliance and leicester do it for free with their premier accounts and thats a free account. So basically your paying over the odds for a few things that you can buy cheaper.

HSBC keep trying to sell this to me too. I haven't really decided if it worth while, I am leaning towards it being a bit expensive for what I get.

Having read their breakdown cover, I have decided it would be useful if my car wasn't 8years older than the limit.

Totally agree with this.

We were talking about this kind of thing at work a few days ago and people seem to prefer that its done for them instead of finding it cheaper themselves :idk:

Maybe these people are busy people that prefer the ease of having it done rather than wasting time shopping about for the sake of a few pounds difference.....
You also get a higher rate of interest on your ISA's and current accounts (though todays interest rates are hardly anything to write home about unless you have a large amount of money in your account).
Ive also noticed that when taking money out abroad I am getting a better exchange rate than colleagues of mine who have standard HSBC accounts.

Well after doing some ground work the plus account turned out to be worth it for the travel insurance alone, comparing like for like. We travel a fair few times throughout the year and so was looking at 12 month policies.
