Ticking TV help

Mum phoned me up today and told me her 30" Amstrad CTR TV has stopped working and there is a ticking sound coming from the back.

Anyone know about TVs and can guess the problem? I think it could be a PSU or Tube problem and that it will be cheaper to by a new tv?

She has had it 12 years and it was 2nd had at the time

Sounds like the tube to me. Mine made a similar noise when it died.

mums eyesight not good these days so it may be a bit small for her...

Our TV made a ticking noise after a lightning strike traveled from the top of the street down the cable network.

Don't know what the fault was but the TV was dead as was everything else connected to the cable box apart from the cable box. Odd.

Is it still possible to get the tube replaced in CRT TVs or is a case of toss them out these days?

Probably a high voltage component failure, with a CRT TV of that age not worth fixing, get her a nice new TV.
