I'm led to believe that Strongbow has a lower calorific value than beer/lager (despite having a high sugar content).

Am I correct in my assumptions? :)

25ml of vodka (1 unit) - 50 calories
1/2 Pint Stella (1.5 Units) - 150 calories
1/2 guinness (1 unit) - 100 calories

1 apple - 75 calories

1 apple - 75 calories

Therefore Vodka is healthier than Apples!

Get 1 of you 5 a day now!

Or really, 5 apples = 375 calories,
375 calories of Vodka = 7.5 Shots.

Yes, its official! 5 apples or 7.5 shots of vodka is fulfilling all of your 5-a-day needs!

The difference in calories between lager and cider is, on average, practically negligible. Depends very specifically on the brand you're drinking though. Alcoholic drinks just contain a lot of (empty) calories. Not much you can do about it.

So...these are calories that are converted to fat(s) if you don't work them off? Because what about drunken munchies? Drinking 500-1000 calories and then being starving and eating a crazy unhealthy kebab doesn't make much sense.

Also the next day I am always starving...seem to eat all day non-stop.

The drunken munchies is to do with blood sugar levels.
And bodyweight stays consistant unless to a degree and the horrible dumps you have after a session is due to the body getting rid of the excess you didn't put on.

Calories are a measure of energy. Booze contains ethanol which is a fuel.

I imagine the body calories gained from the alcohol you drink is not the same as what you'd get if you burned all the ethanol.

But i could be talking out of my corn hole... :o

Well, drink as much as you want. Just make sure you dance your butt off all night! Work them calories off :P Ending with a nicer *session* with the missus. I'm sure you can get that calorie debt the other way around haha

The biggest problem with drinking a lot of alcohol is the prevention of fat-burning in the body. If you're on a diet you may think it's much healthier to have a large gin and diet tonic rather than a pint of lager, but if the alcohol slows down your metabolism and prevents the burning of fat then you won't start losing body fat again until the alcohol is out of your system. And that doesn't mean when you sober up. Some of the alcohol is turned to fat, but the rest is converted into acetate by the liver and goes into your bloodstream. Only after this acetate has been burned off by the body will you see any significant fat-burning going on.

Vodka / Spirits are great but when you start mixing it gets nasty
If you're a girly girl who can't hold their booze.

I tend to start off on beer and wine, then move onto spirits, maybe a few ciders for refreshment purposes. After dancing. Then usually back on the beer for the walk home.
I think mixing drinks being bad for you is an urban legend, i've never had a problem mixing my drinks, and i tend to drink about 50 quid at least away in one night (usually in wetherspoons and walkabout so not expensive places).

But yeah, vodka is the least fattening, definitely no beer (beer gut), even it if it so damn delicious i could have sex with it.

I rarely drink spirits here as the shots are a pussy 25mL and quite expensive at that.

In the states I'd usually get a double shot (100mL) vodka and redbull for 2.50-4 dollars. Sometimes 1 dollar on specials.

haha sounds perfect 5 a day to me :p

It's certainly not healthy - full of chemical sweetners, acid and toxic alcohol :p

It is the lowest calorie way to get drunk. I think there's some debate as to whether your body can use all the calories in alcohol anyway. I'm of the opinion that perhaps some of the calories are used but if people are taking in over half their daily allownce in an evening a few times a week they'd quickly get fat!

Alcohol reduces the amount of calories burnt from fat though so you certainly won't be shedding any pounds even drinking low-calorie alcohol.
