Glasgow has some great shops - Main routes are Buchanan Street, Sauchiehall Street and Argyll Street. These have pretty much all your major chains and smaller boutique style shops. These incorporate several shopping centres such as Buchanan Galleries, St Enochs and Princes Square.

Tourist wise you have the Glasgow Science Centre which is well worth a visit, Scotland Street School, Willow Tea Rooms (both Charles Rennie Macintosh buildings), the Botanic gardens, The museum of Transport, Gallery of Modern art, Lighthouse museum of architecture.

Oh and we also have the world's tallest cinema. Merchant's city is also worth a visit and has lots of great restaurants and art galleries along with plenty of bars.

See some more ideas here http://www.seeglasgow.com/

I'm with neodude :)

Actually Glasgow is ok but dont stray too far from the centre particularly at night. Merchants city is well worth going to for food/drink. If you want to travel a little the head up to loch lomond which is under an hours drive north.

Failing all that head to Edinburgh :p

Plenty of culture for you to see -

Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery
Hunterian Museum (Glasgow University)
Gallery Of Modern Art
Burrell Collection
Museum Of Transport
Glasgow Highlanders Division Museum (Sauchiehall Street)

For a nice day of browsing shops, enjoying a few drinks in a nice bar, taking in a bit of culture and having a nice meal, head for Byres Road as everything is close. Ice cream at the Uni Cafe is recommended.

If you want to stroll around a nice park and see some ruined Castles, head for Mugdock Park.

Ignore the comment above, Edinburgh has a castle, a zoo and a few museums but that's about all. Glasgow has better shopping, a better nightlife and more varied museums. Yes, Edinburgh is nice but not necessarily better. Edinburgh also has problems outwith it's city centre as does all cities.

Visited in April after doing Ben Nevis and was very impressed with the city centre. Some stunning streetscapes (Royal Exchange Square and the City Chambers are wonderful), top shopping and Kelvingrove park & Museum is a great area, along with much of the West End.

Very underrated as a city.

check out "the corinthian" - possibly the most beautiful bar in the world

depends what you are into really? night life or museums or adventures?

xscape at braehead is good - has laser quest, indoor skiing and snowboarding with real snow, adventure golf, wall climbing, cinema, a mid air assualt course, football school, bowling, shops and restaurants.

glasgow has a lot more to offer than edinburgh, but it also has more idiots too, if you want to go out at night, stay away from sauchiehall street and try to stay in merchant city

Yeah the Corinthian is realy nice, the piano bar is good for a chilled out drink.

The City Center has good shopping, as said above Argyle St, Buchanan St, Buchanan Galleries and Sauchiehall Street for most of the good shops etc.

For night life and attractions I would uggest heading to the West End, you can jump on tne underground from the city centre and jump off at HillHead. Gets you to Byres Road. The Botanic Gardens is right there and Ashton Lane has some great bars etc.

The Cathedral is pretty epic too. Well worth a look.

Great nightlife here too.

Everyone else has said pretty much what to do...

Would recommend Loch Lomond, it's a beautiful place indeed and not too far away. Even if you don't get out of the car, the drive itself is quite something

I've got to say, as an Englishman living in Scotland, I absolutely love Glasgow. I don't exactly know why - there's just something about it. It's very industrial looking still, with a mixture of old and new architecture. I love the old place and all the history that surrounds it. The museums and galleries are great too, and I think they are free entrance too.

What they said! :D Like a major cities, stay in the center. Glasgow has idiots like every other major city but it also has a very successful economy and a lot of very nice places to shop eat and drink. Its full of tourists at the moment and the sun is shining. Enjoy!

West end, merchant city, buchannan gallaries, princes square etc All trendy, all cool :D
