Help with in-car amp mounting & speaker wiring

When there's power going through it and it's suddenly sliced, the charge must go somewhere. Out one end and out the other :p

Nonsense, the amp will just stop working as there's nowhere left to draw power from! At worst, the power cable will short on the body of the car and blow the fuse.

It will have been an unrelated failure. Cable doesn't suddenly magically generate 40,000 amps of current when it's cut off from the battery :p

Don't screw the amp to your seats, I have no idea why people do this. It'll look nasty when you take it off to sel lthe car. I made a simple floor out of MDF, easy to do really and much much neater.
Not sure about other cars but the ST24 has a felt/carpet on the back of the seats, thus hiding the holes perfectly fine. This is the way I have mounted the amp, looks 100% better than on the floor, also frees up that little bit more space.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it will have been something unrelated.

A cable merely being cut will just stop working, and a cable shorting on the chassis (relatively unlikely due to paint + grime on top of the bare metal) will just blow the fuse which /should/ be mounted right next to the battery. Even inside the amplifier there are fuses in the power supply section to protect the rest of the circuits if there is a current overload.

Either way I wouldn't like to have a live lead with so much power running through it underneath the car. All you need is a small fuel leak and your driving around in a giant zippo lighter.

?? There are cables running all over the car which would spark if shorted against the chassis. Why is this one any different?

Look how much current these cables can take! Also don't the fuel lines run underneath the car and all the electrics inside?

What does the current have to do with it? A spark is a spark! (This is assuming a spark is actually made, any foreign object would have to cut through the rather thick insulation on the cable and also clear a nice clean area on the chassis for it to short against, and then push the bare cable against said area...).

Had mine on the back of the rear seats on the Punto, looked alright when i sold it, then again, the owner before me left holes in the roof where the dog wire fence was put up...

The rats in my area would use it as a chew toy :p I personally don't think its a good idea and it should be avoided if possible.
