RS4 Rolling Road Numbers - Another View

I think your calculations must be wrong then. You say the car has limited power in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and yet according to your calculations your car must be making full power to get from 0-60 in that time...

I've never measured 0-60, those are 1/4 times...
although the awd does give the car a time advantage, but the true measure is the trap SPEED...or top speed if you can find the road...I do know my car hits the speed limiter easily...

and with the torque multiplication of the lower gears (not to mention the 4:11 Fd), there is no shortage of motive thrust, even limiting power by 20% or more....

btw: I don't 'say it', the Audi Service Training manuals state it...

Wow, you really are just trying to annoy everyone aren't you. Your ban will come thick and fast!

Also... read the rules at all? The swearing is not on. Personally I have no problem with it. The mods might... And in this case... I think I speak for many on this forum when I say you'll not be missed.

Have fun now!

Sorry, my mistake, thought they were 0-60 for some reason. Either way, if you're down on power by 20% for the first 3 gears then I'd expect that to show in any measurements done using them. I also was under the impression that AWD is great for getting off the line but has higher transmission losses, which again I would have expected to be reflected in these figures.

It might be in the audi manual but I don't have access to one so I'm just taking your word for it :p

it may be a stereotype, but the British have absolutely no sense of humor...

that's from a MOVIE, a series of still images, strobed in sequence, to appear as if moving...

so you speak for many? how did you get this authority?

oh no, I'll be banned for humor...woe is me...just think of all the stuff I'll be missing here while I live out my life in the REAL WORLD lol

have fun now, cheerio chaps!

ha ha!

this is a computer forum! I did not know that...I was redirected to the RS4 link, and jumped right in...

here's my 'computer'

I work with computers daily...

I don't claim to know a lot about the subject, but I thought RRs were done in 4th as it's as close to 1:1 ratio as you'll get.

So all this BS about torque limits in 1st 2nd and 3rd is irrelevant, no?

Or am I talking out of my ****? :p

Interesting, as it's normally seen the other way round, and you lot cacn't grasp the idea of sarcasm either. ;)

Correct...to an extent. Whatever gear is closest to 1:1 is used, most often that is 4th, but some cars if they have a 6spd box are 5th. I don't know what the RS4 has in regards to number of gears and what is closest to 1:1.

I don't intend to get embroiled in a childish internet spat, your baiting is REALLY wasted I promise you. I actually never questioned what you posted either just the way you posted it in such a condesending way without any form of credence and to be clear we had a sense of humour before you had a country, you just don't get it. If you look at my post history I think you'll find it both objective and pragmatic. This BHP 'thing' have only been an interest not a major issue. Other things such as reliability and vale coking are where I have issue with the RS4, or are they mythical too?

Have prominent OcUKers been owned? I can't tell.

Nope, never claimed the RR numbers were fact, just interesting and I was VERY careful not to post them as proof, just indicators of further interest. I have always said RR's are no proof of anything, said it many times.

My GT3 (383bhp) pulled 158mph in 3/4 mile from a standing start, my RS4 could only manage around 160mph in around 3/4 mile (the limiter was at 160mph and that is where I hit the limiter ish) from a rolling start where I was doing around 60mph at the start. The valve coking is a fact, I've seen it, Audi acknowledge it and that will have an impact on power no matter what our septic believes.

Again I didn't doubt what was posted, that has been missed I believe and again it's interesting and warrants investigation. I'm going to post it on R246 and see what people think and I shall also email it to Audi on Monday to get their view.

1. No sense of humour? I've got plenty ta. :D I just don't get my kicks from seeing how angry I can make people, seems a bit childish for me. I prefer actual laughing to be involved where possible.

2. From a... movie? Damn, is that where I've been going wrong all this time? I thought it was an apricot?

3. (I see a theme). I don't speak for many. I think I speak for many. Especially when you've endeared yourself to us so well so far.

4. I said you'd be banned for swearing. Can you actually read? :p

5. If the real world is so fun for you, why are you even here? :( Here... Have a handful of pity...

And we all know what the dyno is usefull for - comparisons. The absolute numbers obtained by the dyno can be ignored by our american friend here sceptical of anything other than the american rwhp.

Whats interesting about the dyno runs is the variation between apparently indentical engines. What are the odds on getting the large variations they did running on the same dyno on the same day ?

intake temps will probably have gone up 4 degrees or so in the cell compared to the start of the day, but that still doesnt account for the massive variations.

And besides, RS4er having a car that makes stock prooves nothing. We all know that the car must have been capable of stock power when it was original contested. The issue is how much power they loose when in the hands of customers being used by every day. And if the dyno figures are anything to go by, the power loss due to the "coking" is random and varies from car to car.

Having one car in america that somebody has calculated in some rough way to have stock power doesnt do anything to disuade owners that there isnt something going on.
