I recently managed to get hold of Donkey Kong Country for the SNES, remembering it to be a helluva game.

However, my god, it's so bad! It's just... shockingly rubbish. Wow.

My main beef is that a large chunk of the levels have a 'trial and error' section. Unless you know exactly where each enemy is in these sections, you will die. It's just so lame, particuarly on the mine cart level which requires a series of short jumps in perfect timing. If people thought jumping etc on any 3D platform game was bad, my word, give DKC a spin. Terrible game - so disappointed!

Instead, I have been playing Super Mario World, which is awesome

Edited to avoid the jesus.jpgs:

The obvious question is 'what do you think about this game now? Has it really aged that badly or is it just me?'

EDIT: Since you asked a question. I find DKC still playable to this day. I don't really have the same problems as you did when playing it. Its just one of those games I can always play and have fun with. Nearly every old school game requires you to remember the enemy layouts and patterns. Its aged well.

Lies.

DKC is awesome.

I've got all 3 on the SNES and they rock :D

SMW is still the greatest game ever made however.

Now all you need is Yoshi's Island, Zelda, Mega Man X, X2, X3, StarWing etc etc :D

Did you ever play Donkey Kong 64?

Man that was an awesome game, right until a mate deleted my game..

really hope this is released for wiiware.

I too wasnt too impressed by it when I played it years ago before the PS1 was released.

Graphics were good though for the time, but gameplay was a bit repetitive/boring.

wow you are so wrong. it is a really hard game but there is nothing more satisfying than nailing a bunch of really fast perfectly timed mine cart jumps/barrel blasts.

did you think you would be able to play through it in one go or something?

one of the first games that i remember that gave a real sense of adventure and excitement as to where you would go and what there was to discover on each level

games were just more hardcore back in the day, youre just spoilt now with your checkpoints, easy mode etc :p

Back in the SNES days games weren't designed so your gran could play them, you had to be good and know the levels to complete them. Even now if I load it up precious brain cells that could have been used for study contain almost instinct-like knowledge of how to navigate each level.

DKC was HARD.

DKC Rocks !

Cant see how you find the game that difficult. I guess to many people are used to being handheld :p through games.
