Terminator salvation first reviews (OMG SPOILERS)

I watched it the other night and had a really good time. It was nothing compared to Terminator 2 obviously, but it was a darn sight better than number 3. Each to their own though I guess, but I thought it was awesome fun.

Perhaps they used the prisoners flesh and skin to skin their Terminators? Remember its only 2018 and skin jobs are still prototypes - both T1/T2/T3 flash-forwards where further in the future (how long did Kyle Reese know John Connor before he sent im back - thought it was 10years)...

Went to see this on Wednesday.

I generally like to enjoy films for what they are, rather than picking holes in everything, and in that respect I thought this was actually pretty damn good. :)

The shot at the beginning of Christian Bale getting in the helicopter, taking off then crashing was brilliantly done. :D

aha but for what purpose? to route out more humans! just nuke them or poison their water and you wouldnt need to build life like looking humanoid terminaters anymore..because there would be none left to need to be infiltrated if you see what i mean?

I enjoyed it, goodish film.

Altough I found myself laughing through most of the film. Bionic hearts, sneaking into skynets base, one terminator to kill JC, stealing a robot motorbike.

Wasting all that ammo to kill bio heart only to say yeah no worries mate on you go ain't going to kill you now.

Not sure if the film was meant to be set as if JC had known about Terminators before judgement day or not. But he hinted towards that he did. Confusing.

I do - though that would be a whole issue with the Terminator franchise, not just T4...

yea the first film got it TOO spot on and then financially they couldnt replicate it IMO!!

I would doubt it, the original movies budget was around $6.5 million. Salvations was estimated to be around $200 million. Theres 2 more movies to come so those will probably intoduce us to the devestated city environments, most of this movie seemed to be in desert areas.

Just got back from watching this, I found it to be pretty good and it was an enjoyable action film. Not as good as the original two films as people have said but I'm not now sitting here trying to pick apart the flaws etc, it was just a sit back and enjoy action film. I do agree with the setting though, in Terminator 1 when it shows Kyle Reese in the future it looked like a scary enviroment to be in, and just felt really depressing and creepy. Yet in this the enviroment just felt kinda 'meh' and I thought the L.A. part looked like some copy of a Fallout 3 city.

One thing that bugged me though, why did Kyle Reese not question Marcus about why he knew nothing of what was happening? He just readily answered all of his questions without even bothering to ask him 'Hey, where the hell have you been for the past 15 years, how can you not know what is going on, Judgement day and all?!'

Also, when they pulled up to the gas station in the Jeep toward the beginning of the film, was that supposed to be a reference to the ending of the original and the gas station that Sarah Connor is at where that picture is taken?

hm hopefully so!

also, aniother issue i had was why didnt john connor test out his new super weapon on the new half man half human terminater? especially when he was escaping? they didnt even say, hey john why dont u try that new thingy majigger... just forgot it was even there.

BUT why was it an epic story? because john stopped everyone attacking (when they were all in the presumption that the new weapon would work), otherwise the entire resistance could have been wiped out, or everely reduced in numbers. the skynet wanted the attack to happen. so john connor saved the world once again!

Saw this this morning, and thought it was pretty good. Like everyone says, it's not that good compared to the first 2, but as a standalone action film, I enjoyed it.

And to the people that are saying why don't they just nuke or poison the humans, well that wouldn't make a very good film. Look at any film, and you'll see there's usually a much easier way to achieve the objective, but it's no fun, and you can't turn it into an exciting film.

Also terminators taking prisoners is mentioned in the first movie, prisoners get put to work in incineration factories getting rid of bodies. Though in salvation it seems to be more so to try and start replicating skin, or maybe just stripping off skin and putting it on terminators before it had the ability to replicate it.

Saw it earlier and left entertained but not impressed. Probably didn't help that the cinema was packed to the gills with chavvy kids. Need to go back and watch it again late one evening.

One bit I don't get, at the end when Skynet is hamming it up and spooling off its master plan, how does it know that it even sent the terminators of T1 and T2, thus requiring it to come up with the evil plan for this movie? None of that has happened yet.

Skynet doesnt know it sent the terminators.. I dont remember it mentioning them..

All Skynet knows is that it is struggling to kill JC and it formulates the plan using Cyberdynes genetic research with Marcus to meet their needs.

I will expect there to be more Terminator movies:
Terminator Salvation 2 - Send kyle back in time. Meet the early T1000 prototype.
Terminator Salvation 3 - Send T-800 back in time. Meet the prototype T2000.

That Kyle Reese future is ahead of Terminator Salvation. I havnt played Fallout but assume its some post nuclear city, in which case if they are similar.. sounds about right.

All it would do is create mistrust between the two characters. It wouldnt have added anything substantially to the story. Marcus' response would have been limited because he doesnt know where he has been.

Indeed.

It just doesnt feel like the world we saw in flash frowards from the first too films.
The flash forwards in the first two films are to ahead of Terminator Salvation.

T1 and T2 flash forwards go to a JC who has his scar down his face and they are using Laser weapon technology, not projectile.

Expect those futures to match more closely in the following Terminator Salvation movies.

Actually it might well have been, according to imdb that station has been in terminators 1-3.

I thought it looked like the exact same station from a very similar angle from the first film, when she pulls into the station in the Jeep. Probably just another small homage to the other films in the franchise.

Indeed, good shout.

Good move...just got back from watching it with my brother who also thought it was pretty decent....didnt bother wondering why certain things were done...i think people who do that are kinda sad but hey each to their own.

Loved the Arnie bit in there as well...thought that was pretty cool tbh.

Bring on Transformers 2 now...cant wait to see that :D
