From a 4870 512MB to a 4890 1Gb ?

Running a Dell 24" screen 1920 x 1200

I want to upgrade, but i could wait if need be to see what ATI does in the next few months.
 
But surely if upgrading it would make more sense to make a real step upwards right?

As far as I remember, the 1GB 4870 only performs about 10% better than the 512MB one at 1920x1200, on average.
