So, 26k miles on the clock with 11k until next service at which point, BMW deem it feasible to replace the cars air filter for the first time!!!!

In my mind, I knew this was "c'est ridicule" so I spent the £30 on a genuine BMW air filter and spent 45 minutes today replacing it. The amount of trim, that needed removing was again, a complete joke.

This is what came out:

I'm not sure any of you will be able to tell them apart, but it's the left one which is old.

How BMW can expect this is suitable is beyond me really.

Oh, and here is what was left behind after the filter came out.

Grit, leaves and what looks like the remains of a bat :)

Anyway, all clean now and certainly a noticeable difference from picking up low down in the revs :)

You technically just voided the warranty on a £30,000 car to save a few quid, congrats :p

You might think that, but I got them to agree to it as long as I used a genuine part. Which I did. :) I don't pay for servicing anyway, but they wouldn't do an interim change without me paying £140.

You got Ocean to agree? You are a better man than I am.

I ended up getting my car serviced at Scothall Hampshire because they suddenly decided that after 3 years of not ever having a problem with it suddenly they wouldnt stamp my book if I didnt let them fleece me for a further £70 to change the cabin filters, even though it's a seperate tick box on the service schedule..

Scothall had no such issue.

No, didn't use Ocean, Wood BMW were more local.

Looks like the filter is doing a sterling job to me - if the muck is in the airbox, it isn't in your engine! Doesn't look like it's clogged up so it would have been fine for another 11K in all probability.
