Still waiting for you to enlighten my ignorance though regarding significant changes that would make an upgrade from Vista to W7 worth the money.

Your apology was most welcome though as it restores my faith in human nature when people are big enough to apologise when they have been rude to someone. :rolleyes:
 
I would not advise anyone to upgrade from Vista to W7. In my view, a complete waste of £50, £80 or whatever it would be.
As long as your hardware is suitable, an upgrade from XP to W7 may be worthwhile though. But I'm not upgrading my 3 yr old XP machine, nothing wrong with it. Does what I want and security updates will be there to 2014, so no need to upgrade at all.

The hardware requirements for W7 are just about the same as they were for Vista, so if your XP PC couldn't run Vista then chances are it won't be any different with W7.

well, thers one for you. incorrect - look at the people runing w7 on netbooks, reporting it runs better than xp in most cases - how can that be if the hardware requirements are the same as vista?

I find it amazing that one can change the name of a product add a few tweaks here and there and suddenly everyone says "isn't this great" Talk about sheep - baaaaaaaaaa!

and there's another. ask people who didnt like vista what they think of w7 - most of them will tell you its a brilliant operating system that is far better on hardware resources and most of them will buy it -i'm one of them.

sheep? baaa? lets flip that around, i could acuse you of being a sheep for jumping on the cool-to-hate microsoft bandwagon because you've dismissed the product without giving it any thought or research. I think i lot of people would agree with that statement.

I can understand both sides of the argument.

Fundamentally Windows 7 is Vista with various improvements. Talking to a friend of mine who writes CFD software for various platforms including Windows, and who therefore does spend a bit of time drinking Starbucks coffee in Seattle at Microsofts HQ I get the same impression that Faustus gives, i.e. it's an evolutionary change which some existing Vista users might think is not worth forking out for just yet.

The reality is though that many of us do find it a whole lot more usable than Vista, and while the back end might not be that different the user experience is what ultimately we are interested in.

I think that's one that you need to take up with the boys from Seatlle as this was a quote taken directly from an MS blog a few months back?

Now I nearly choked on that one and clearly shows that you haven't done any research on me. If you check this forum and many other such forums you will see that I love MS products - nearly everything I buy is MS and I hold BG in a god like status. I have defended Vista right from day one, which by the way is the day I installed it (I run it on three machines). Vista is a fine OS but has been hounded out of existence by the tech press who seem to have their own agenda and people with little knowledge or experience of the product on forums such as this. 3rd party manufacturers were to blame for a lot of Vista's problems as they didn't see any value in updating drivers for their products to make them Vista compatible when they could sell the user a brand new one and make a hefty profit from it. I have installed both the Beta version of W7 and the RC so to say I haven't given it any thought or research is just plain offensive.

Perhaps you can provide your CV for Vista and W7 and tell me why it would be worthwhile for me to upgrade then?
 
Hmm seems the onboard sound may have suddenly been causing issues...i re-enabled it and the xmp memory profile and vista wouldn't start..so i disabled azalia codec and voila it works...

Wonder if having SSD + HDD is causing some irq issues with the onboard sound...will stick my auzentech card back in i think....
 
Windows 7 pricing is potentially an obstacle to Windows 7 adoption for some users. In tough economic times, I think it's naive to believe that you can increase your prices on average and then still see a stronger swell than if you held prices flat or even lowered them. I can tell you that the licensing tiers at retail are more expensive than they were for Vista.

In the business market, Windows 7 Professional is expected to be more expensive than Windows Vista Business, the version that Professional is replacing.

The above is a quote from a Dell article posted on the Internet so if anyone was hoping that W7 was going to be a bargain you can think again - OUCH!

Are you using Chrome? Trying using IE or Firefox, it seems I'm much more impatient than you as I tried that after about 45 seconds of hanging.
 
What build is recommended just now, and when is the final due? I have a beta installed from around February. It works pretty much perfect, just wondering if I should upgrade or just wait for final.
 
I've started to use the 7201 release with a couple of new drives in Raid 0 + Raptor for main OS. Mixed results really, I've tried to Beta and was previously on a vlited version of Vista.

The system feels quicker in places but some pieces of software I regularly use are starting to cause problems with higher CPU and memory usage, causing system lag. I've gone through the process of turning off things that I wouldn't use to see if that helps since I am used to a cut down version of vista and not the full package.

Does anyone else use SABnzbd? This is the program that's causing me the trouble
