Bigger box!
Currently re-playing FFVII, and LOVING IT!! Will give VIII and IX a go afterwards too as I've never played them..

Completely unintentionally I stubled across FFXI for 95p yesterday!! So I bought it and I've heard fairly mixed opinions... Anyone played/still play?

What do you/did you think?

Ta :)

Not played in years tbh, but when I did play I enjoyed it. It's a little bit quirky, but then what MMO isn't? The job system is very cool. Tarutaru's are so cute they'll make you puke. Mithra's and Galkan's only have 1 sex, and you can't jump*

I think what puts some people off is that it's very focused on the group game. Not sure if they put more solo content in recently but if that's your thing I believe the Beastmaster was the best for that.

*It's a bit weird not being able to jump. I sort of liked it though. There's a type of MMO player that likes to jump everywhere they go. Bounce bounce bounce, jump jump, jump. Really irritating.

Your replaying FF7 i would have never of guessed it;)

I own FF11 2008 edition but never got round to playing it.

Played it pre-WoW and loved it, it was a quality MMO back in the day.
I did reinstall it for a nostalgia blast but didn't really play it all that much, the graphics look so dated now and the control system is very clunky after WoW.

The problem with FFXI is that after level 15, you HAVE to group to level up - and the party members have to be within 2 levels of you. Can make grouping a lengthy and frustrating experience - was particularly bad when I was playing it as there weren't any EU servers, so most players were Japanese or Yanks.
Good game, but never got the popularity it deserved. Roll on FFXIV!

they did put a lvl sync feature in so people higher lvl can drop dpwn to ur lvl and join a lower lvl group, so finding a group is much easier now. also the new dancer job is a decent solo job, but its still very group orientated. no mmorpg is as rewarding as ffxi though when you do get through 1 of the hard missions or beat 1 of the hard bosses. The chains of promathia missions are especially awesome, the storylines are great, and the end game is very varied and fun compared to the raid fests of other mmos

you cant have played many mmos if u think ffxi is the most rewarding, it was a good game but after getting used to solo content in the modern mmo's i could never go back to it

problem is i could never get used to solo content in other mmos it just felt like even more of a grind then the group grinding in ffxi. at least ffxi had missions and mini games to break up the grinding, things like wow are a constant grind. thats my opinion.

Seeing how I am bored of other games at the moment, I've decided to start this game again from scratch and play up unil FF14 :)

If anyone wishes to join me, please add me on msn (in trust).

i'd love to go back to it but I really liked endgame and that meant scheduled stuff for hours every week and i just don't know if i have the time at the moment

i dont understand people who want soloing in MMOs? id only ever solo whilst waiting for group stuff to happen, levelling in partys was great fun and missions/HNMs were even better.
and so so rewarding, id put in so many hours crafting and fishing to save up for one chance at an HQ craft, loved every second of it
by the time i quit people were just starting to beat the jailors and absolute virtue and there were something like 4 clans in the real world that had beat them, the game is endless :o
i shall probably pick up ff14 but have to play casually on it and not put so much time in it to go endgame

Some people want to solo in MMOs because grouping is not always easy. There are some classes that just have a hard time getting a group. And even with popular classes you could still waste many hours trying to find a group, and for a casual player that simply is too much time wasted. Having the ability to solo while waiting for a group should always be an option in any MMO imo.

This comic strip sums up some of the annoyances with grouping, and why soloing should be an option.

Doh!

I already started on Bismarck, any chance of a world pass or can I delete and start on that server. Only lvl 2 so isn't a problem.

Ahh nice one jamie.

I'm actually really supprised how nice the game looks if you do the regedit and use a nice high resolution with a decent background resolution. Not much difference compared to WOW graphics when you set it as high as possible :)

Not my images, but shows the difference. If you use the max graphics settings in the final fantasy config, it will look like this

If you edit the registry you can make it look like this so quite a nice imrpovement :)
