Basically im off to uni in september, i love my job and my boss is great. Im goin on holiday in july and im tryin to think of the best way and the right time to break the news to my boss. Any ideas?

What are you hoping for? Do you want them to hold you job for you, work in the summer, or just leave completely, kthnxbye? Ask for a meeting with your boss, and just tell him. Start off with how much you love the job and the company, ask him what he'd like you to do? Would he like a letter of resignation etc?

If you're off to Uni I'm guessing this is just a part time sales assistant job or something?

Just man up and tell him straight, your giving him the standard notice that you intend to leave on X date.

Just tell him.

Find found out im off to the army when i was telling someone in the lunch room where i was off to on the following friday.
And since he trained me apparently he wasnt too happy about it :p

I asked to speak to my manager and we sat down and I said that the job was great, the people were great and I couldn't fault anything but that I needed a bigger company to progress further in and that I felt that I would not be comfortable long term in the one and only position that I could move up to (I was 2nd to my manager who was heading up IT)

It was all true, I felt a little guilty but they will appreciate your goals. Tell it to them straight, don't make anything up.

Is he likely to dismiss you if you tell him? (Probably not) If not, tell him now. If you can maintain good relations you stand a moderate chance of getting summer work.

If you get on well with your boss and think they will keep you on until you leave (should you need the extra cash) then simply tell them you intend to leave but that you're prepared to work until date X if required. If you don't get on well with your boss or that they will only give you the minimum period of notice then you might be better advised to hand in your resignation at the point where you get to leave on the correct date.

If its busy in work, tell him now. If its dead ... wait until three weeks before you start uni, and then tell him, else you may just become another recession statistic.
