Cycle Happy :D

I definetely need to get some padded shorts going - my commute to work and back is fine but I did around 110km on Sunday and didn't feel too great :o

I might try and do 100km or so this Saturday around Richmond Park, will see if I can pick up some shorts tomorrow or in the morning on Saturday.

Would padded cycling shorts undearneath baggies also stop the big sweat patch on your bum? :p

Congrats to the OP.

I started cycling on the road last August. I now cycle a 36 mile round trip to my work and back.

I've never felt fitter. Go for it!!! :D

Padded cycle shorts and a good saddle (not necessarily squishy) :P

Granted living in Bristol it's supposed to be the nation's first Cycling City - though I haven't really seen the benefit yet... Still lots of lumps and bumps in the road plus evil/ignorant/rubbish drivers and pedestrians getting rather to close to causing one damage.

It's a thrill some days :D Other days you just have to keep zen and not get too worked up about it all. It's worth it for the feeling of strength and freedom!

Gotta agree with that. I've being biking around Bristol a lot these last few weeks. I never bother driving through town and I'm too tight to bother paying for a bus instead of a 20, 30, 40 minute walk... But converting them into 5-10 minute rides is awesome.

Bought some shorts today - some padded baggy ones and some tight ones to wear underneath - I was contemplating just wearing them on their own but I look hideous!

Definetey something I'll have to get used to - feels strange wearing tight shorts :p

Just did another circuit again and it felt a bit easier again so i might even extend it little further next time im out just got to think of a new route.

So i've been cycling 8mile circuits twice a week for about 5 or 6 weeks to get back in shape cause i was embarrasingly unfit, anyway i managed today to add on an extra 2 miles and finally make it up the very steep and long hil at the end of my circuit in one try :D which makes me extremely happy to see some visible process.

Congrats

The missus and me have bought new bikes last week, and we are loving our new freedom. Plus its great exercise for the both of us and much better than the gym :)

yeah i am liking it more and more, my last time out was great, i have a specialized Sonoma BG saddle and its finally worn in and is really really comfortable, the same with my new pedals!

I want to ride but can't :( :(
A broken collar bone 3 weeks ago means i'm off riding for 6-8 weeks.

At least a collar bone will fix.
Desperate to get back on my bike but know that if i do i'm likely to be in mucho pain afterwards.
Still spent yesterday helping my sister/brother-in-law on an 80 mile sportive by carrying water and drinks supplements.
Glad i wasnt fit to ride it, lots of hills, some 14%, some 20% and the final sting at 67 miles a 1:4 from a standing start

Road or dirt?

if your asking me, it was a road sportive. Been likened to a mini-fred whitton.
Could see a lot of ppl who entered going up the first long climb wishing they were on compact or triple chainsets. You could see the one's who do a lot of sportives, triple chainsets and bar bags.

Well i finally got my bike last Friday:D Well happy with it, I went out the first night and did 12 miles felt well good going through town and then out into the country. Saturday I was up at 5:15am itching to get out again, I did 20 miles and felt well knackred for work on sunday lol.

I'm starting by doing 15miles 3 times a week and a 30 mile on sunday. The bikes great but the chain needs some adjustment as it's come of a couple of times, need to learn to fix things. I went for a straight handle bar bike It's a Gaint FCR and maybe one of the best things I've ever brought :D

what needs adjusting is your limit screws on either the rear or front mech.

they limit the amount of movement they do inwards or outwards bound. too much movement in either direction will have it derail your chain from the rings.

my front gears are changing properly im going to have to have a try at adjusting them so it changes gear properly without constantly running against the deraileur.
