Diesel power smoked my M power

No, it doesn't. The autos have a serious delay after hitting the loud pedal to actually getting any kind of feedback. This was totally evident the other day when I had a Traffic Light GP with a manual 335i Coupe. He completely left me from the line for what seemed like an eon.

really?

i find that using the steptronic, changing gears manually, it holds the revs around 3,000 as you floor it.. seems to work better than just booting it in D imo

It's not a guarantee, but it's likely that as the car had a 'ring sticker on the back it's owned by a car nut and has probably been fettled with in some way shape or form.

This is a fair comment. I had it in DS (which starts in 2nd from a standing start). Oh goodness, to think, If I'd had it in 1st I could have wasted him!

I still find a slight delay though. Plus, you get the annoying creep when you release the brake.

people are talking from standing though arent they?
in my e46, from standing, it is dog slow to get moving. once it hits the powerband though things change.

2 pedals + 2 feet = 1st gear, foot on brake and other foot on loud pedal, getting the revs up :p

Doesn't work with the drive by wire (at least not in the E60). If the car detects both brakes and throttle are depressed it kills the revs back to idle.
