Upgrading old comp to new comp but cant get a good gfx card atm due to issues. But i might have managed to loan a 6600gt off a nice fellow. I will have a

p5kc
q6600 g0
4gb ddr2 8500 (might be runnning in 800mhz cos of mb i duno)
loan of a 6600gt.

Its just for a month or so till i can sort a new gfx card out but i am wondering what games i can get away with playing 30+ fps.

HL2, COD2 and Farcry should probably be ok. You may struggle with FEAR depending on the resolution your playing at. Anything a few years old should be fine :)

I think you might be surprised at what it will actually run.

As long as you keep the resolution and the detail level down it should run a fair few games, even some pretty recent ones. ;)

On the RTS side, you -should- be ok with all of the CnC games, but I wouldnt expect much out of something like Supreme Commander...

Anything really should run except gta iv, crysis, empire total war, etc... All but the most modern games. The card has shader 3.0 and is about 65% of the speed of a 6800GT iirc, so should run most games. Just have to keep the res down ( which won't be a problem for you since you still have a CRT) and the details... Anything from 2004-2005 should be eaten by the card. Iirc it's similar to a 7300GT, and my mate used to play CoD4 and assassins creed with a 7300GS.

Anything on Source will run fine. WOW will be fine. You'd probably be alright with Demigod tbh.

I think you'd be surprised actually. It'd be easier to name the games you cant run on a 6600GT anyway ;)

Unreal Tournament 2004 is a must!

Nachos & Beer server is fun, there are plenty of mods and addons, Ballistic Weapons is quite fun offline.

rtcw ...even though the sp side of it is a bit crap :p

tbh lots of games would run decently if you stick to 800*600 res and medium details.
just forget the games that focus mainly on eyecandy.....its gameplay that matters.

I suggest Source games (they'll run on lower settings)

More specifically (from my opinion) HL2, TF2, L4D, CSS.

Trackmania is a bit of fun, not everyone's cup of tea.

If you have a bunch of friends to play online with, The Old Quake 3 Arena demo actually is quite fun...

Edit: Battlefield 2 and UT2k4 as well!
