Makes you wonder, if they wanted to save space by not including battery clip in/out and lock mechanism, what was wrong with simple cut out, so you could unscrew a latch above bat compartment, then remove it without prying the whole thing open and/or voiding warranty.

I didnt realise this update was coming this week! But im really excited now!! (going to get amacbook pro later on in the summer)
Seems like my subliminal messeging to apple about the sd card slot is working...
I like the non-removable battery idea too, mainly for this expected 6-7 hours life (that will be impressive to see given my current laptop can do 2...)

i was over the moon when was looking at macs then loged on later an they were all new
but you like the inernal battery
the battery life is very good but what if in 2years it is now down to 30mins battery life and it is a real hard job to replace...also upgrading ram and hd's will be harder.
dont know what to make of the new case tbh, looks very good but at what cost.

went on the live chat on there site and they comfirmed that they can replace the battery, will be free under customer care i belive and also free if it is a manufacture default. you have to pay if it is not a defult (dident ask the cost but i am guessing it is what i prevously posted)
apple customer service was good, got a reply before i had a chance to type what i was going to ask, cant beat that
all that is left is to buy one.
what are your guys opions over the 13'' with 4gb ram with the standard 2.26ghz processer or the 2.53ghz processer? worth going for the upgrade?

I figured it would be something along those lines as Apple are generally good when it comes to battery life issues but it's nice to have some clarification.
RAM is much more beneficial than the processor speed, so only go for the latter if you can justify the expense. There's nothing the 2.53 can do that the 2.26 won't - it'll just be marginally slower, but you'll barely notice it.

The battery life will be approx 5hrs., which is still impressive.. but not the claimed 7hrs.
They said the current 15" MBP would be 4.5 and it would barely manage 3 when I had it.

+1, i think i'll be going for the 2.26 version and upgrading the memory myself (hopefully you can still do this?)
if you can't upgrade the memory yourself, i'll probably go for the 2.53 version.

they do a memory upgrate on site for 80pounds what isent bad for 4gb of ddr3 ram.
the hd upgrade will cost 40pounds if you want the 250gb hd
the 2.53ghz model is 250 pounds more but comes with the upgrades, so you are paying 170pounds for a increse of 0.27ghz increse what isent that bad.
You should still be able to. I know for a fact you can get to the memory in the 17" model so I don't see any reason why the 15" wouldn't be the same - it'll presumably be a shrunk-down version of the 17".
I didn't much see the point in self-upgrading the RAM when I bought my 15" and I still don't. For the upgrade fee you're getting it installed for you, covered under Applecare and I figured that was worth the cost, especially given the second-hand market is flooded with 2GB sets of RAM from Macs and prices are plummeting.
In the end it just wasn't worth the hassle for me but others may think differently.

i'm assuming i can't upgrade the memory myself then?
i currently have a 15.4" MBP 2.20 ghz 4GB 120gb, but i find it too big to carry around everywhere, so i'm thinking of swapping it for the smaller 13" so i'll be wanting something with a similar specs because my current MBP is fast enough for what i use it for (web design mainly)

If it's anything like the fixed-battery design of the 17" then yes, you will be able to upgrade it.
It will be more fiddly than the current MBP, so in other words, you'll need a screwdriver but it will be user upgradable.

I also asked on the phone about the new snow leopard and where new mac buyers stand, it will cost £7.50 which is not really bad, like come on its not exactly much.

I brought the base 15" because it seemed perfect for me, only gripe was the graphics card, when the old base model had a better card but hey i have an xbox for games.

Having said that, when one orders on the phone, how do they check your HE status? Student ID or something?

I spoke to Apple care earlier who informed me because of the built in battery you couldn't upgrde the RAM or HDD which is gutting as I wanted to upgrade a standard 13" to 4GB RAM and a 500GB HDD for around £130 whereas Apple want £240 for the same upgrades.
I think they were telling porky-pies.
The manual for the 17" unibody clearly* states that the RAM and the hard-drive are user serviceable parts. And seeing as the entire MBP range has the same inbuilt battery design as the 17" I see no reason why that would change.

I agree, but that still doesn't resolve the issue that they don't have an Apple store in the country, if there is a problem.
