It's an acer, so on that point alone I'd stay far, far away.

I've taken one of these apart and its very well put together, Acer have had some cheaply made laptops out in the past, this model doesn't fall into that catergory by a long way, its a great spec for the money and anyone overlooking it purely on the Acer brand is missing out bigtime.

It's not just the brand, it's having to deal with their woeful warranty repair service, 3 months to "fix" (it stopped working a week after it was returned) a monitor is unnaceptable and a very good reason to not buy their products IMHO.

I've got a ThinkPad now, and having seen that dismantled (logic board swap, onsite) I was blown away by how well it's put together. Magnesium rollcage to stop flex, carbon fibre reinforced plastics etc. etc.

Don't get me wrong, when Acer products work, they're not bad - I've got a 3 year old Aspire 5001 which my wife now uses and apart from needing the fan on constantly and getting very hot it does the job it's supposed to.

I've got the Aspire 6935 (with the P7350 processor) and I'm amazed at how well it's been made. I actually work for one of Acer's main resellers of laptops on the internet so I'm aware that the previous generations were appalling in terms of build quality and for after sales support, but this new Gemstone design hasn't so far given us any issues at all.

To be honest, the service centers for aftersales support are a bit hit and miss really, in our experience, we have VERY few issues that need to be chased up by ourselves, but we have heard of horror stories on the internet and across forums.

Back to the laptop though, I'd honestly say get one, it's one of the best laptops I've used in a while by a long shot. The only negative point I've got against it though is that Acer preload a ton of crapware that took me approximately an hour to uninstall when I first received it. Apart from that though, brilliant laptop.

Hi, trouble is all it seems to need is one bad experience and suddenly the whole brand is rubbish even if there has been no direct experience of the particular laptop the op is asking about about.
All I can say is, as schools IT technician that's worked with Acers for six years now who has a 5920G as school laptop and a 8930G as personal laptop and has had direct experience Acers service, go for it. The present range is very good...

im also considering getting this laptop...as a student im obviously going to struggle toget a decent laptop that has the capability to play games as well as other functions, however this laptop seems pretty damn good considering the spec's and price of it :P heres hoping ill get it in a few months.

have a good look on the internetz theres one place offering this nearly exact same spec Acer for £493 inc vat. A competitor so i cant name them.
