Learning Guitar

It is you who posted a pic of him with a signed guitar and thumbs up last time there was a discussion about Gilbo, am I right?

Did you inherit any of his powers as you touched him?

Correct lol :)

Unfortunately no powers were inherited but my guitar now looks awesome :)

I've had it lacquered so the sig will never come off

Correct lol :)
PICS

:D

TBH even with the never-come-off approach I would still hang it veeery carefully on the wall and never play it again :D

Although I would want to...difficult choice really! One thing is for sure it wouldn't leave the house!

That is one awesome guitar. I love maple fretboards.

Thanks ;)

I can't resist playing it :) I'll never sell it so meh! If i was loaded I'd just buy another but I'm not.....

I have this but i prefer the PGM!

The Fatty is my dad, not me :D

It doesn't leave the house and I would never gig it ;)

I'm currently having a custom fireman made so hopefully that will retract my attention away from the PGM for a while :)

Arghhhh! pulloffs, only realisng its better to do this with the string cleared off other fingers....now back to practice :P

This i'm sure will only apply to learners like myself we are many I believe :D
the annoying habits of the pick and learner. Holding on to the pick was hit n miss in the beggining now I can keep it held where it should be but now it likes to turn/spin away from the pick point so my point is how to keep the pick from moving :D

Enter cheapo delrin picks, a paper punch and white/blue tack

Punch .50mm pick with paper punch

push ball of tack through hole, spread on both sides to make a grip

patent applied for :P

Just thought I'd post this link here, as it's not really worth a thread of its own.

For those learning the guitar I'd really recommend an app called Guitar Pro, and then search online for some Guitar Pro tabs.

Also, I just found this site which does the same kinda thing as Guitar Pro:

http://www.songsterr.com

I don't think it's worth signing-up for a Songsterr Plus account as the freebie account offers enough functionality for most people. They've got a healthy selection of songs for people to learn - should be something for everyone :)

Maybe a bit off topic, but still guitar talk.

I'm sick of being rubbish after playing for 2 years. The problem is I just don't play enough - sometimes I'll go days without playing and rarely play more than 2 hours a day. I'm thinking of getting lessons to put me on the right track and maybe give me some motivation. Does anyone know how much lessons usually cost?

Currently I'm aiming towards learning fingerpicking. I'd like to be able to play this:

But I only started learning fingerpicking a week or so ago, and it's very hard lol. Anyone got any general tips, or perhaps easy songs to learn that are fingerpicked?

Hi, I have touched on finger picking through learning with www.nextlevelguitar.com but enphasis on the touched I was taught to anchor with the little finger on the picking hand the guy in the video above doesn't anchor which makes me sure he is pretty advanced player as anchoring helps beginnners locate the strings. There are beginner finger style lessons on you tube, and with regards guitar lessons from a teacher it will probably vary from area to area. Something I haven't done yet is take a lesson but do agree it helps to get an appraisal of your playing to see how you are progressing. So I'd be interested also in hearing about proper lessons cost.

Here's a recording i made yesterday :)

Just thought I'd share it with you guys, there is 1 disgusting bend, see if you can notice it :D

Something to watch out for is when you are bleeding two notes together that ought not to be.

Check out 0.26 and 1.01 of your recording, for example, and compare it to the original.

Some really nice vibrato at the start there :)

I always wonder what gauge of strings/brands people use i have always used D ADDARIO EXL120 XL 9-42 SUPER LIGHT, been reading that Ernie Ball strings are meant to be ok what do you guys use etc.

Guys, I need some advice please, guitar cable needs replacing as there was a loud hum coming from the amp and when ever I move the cable the 'static moves' now it has completley knackered - no sound at all

What sort of cable do I get? a cheap one?
