opinions on this cheap car please

Very cheap 25 from a trade seller, 29000 is very low mileage, but body looks very clean, front seat bolster looks a bit squashed for this low mileage. Would like to have a look at steering wheel condition and pedal rubber wear to verify the mileage.
The 1.4 engine is a K-series engine so check for Head gasket failure, mayonnaise under the filler cap, mayo on the end of dip stick, coolant water colour - is it brown?

Check of the above again after a good run.

thanks for the reply's chaps.

i know its wrong to stereotype but a trade seller selling a car with such low milage for such a low price just doesnt sit well with me if honest.

That motor should be on sale for £1600-2000 retail in mint condition with low miles. Is their any service history? Bills, MOTs supplied with the car to validate the mileage?

I must admit from the photos the bodywork does look in clean condition, no scuffs, dents etc.

Could be a money pit though, but if it was that good a car I would have it would have been up for a higher price.

Just had a look again at the ad and it appears to be the higher 101bhp version so is slightly more desirable than the ordinary 82bhp version.

The above makes me wonder why it is priced this low. When are you going to view it?

Maybe it was owned by a 20st pensioner who only drove it to church, post office and the shops a couple of times a week...;)

Is that not a fairly stereotypical rover owner?

Agreed it looks cheap and the bolster does look a bit knackered, but remember this is a rover and as such, put together by people from the midlands

i'm not actualy going to view it i was using it as an example as i will be considering a car "if" i get another job soon.
but thanks for your help and others its appreciated.

in my younger day i used to own expensive cars and i always swore i'd never get another car but im an out of work security guard so i need some cheap wheels lol.

im 34 now so im more interested in mpg than style. oh dear im old :(

I drive a 620ti, and I can tell you now I don't just potter to the shops to collect my pension - ask people that came on the Moors meet :p

Gotta say, looks a bargain. If it's there I'd go for it, but if you don't want the trim to fall apart in your hands I recommend the 400/45 route rather than a 25. I went from a Fiesta to a 1.6 400, and loved it :)

About 1mpg worse on fuel too, for all that extra room.

The bloke who owned my 03 Rover 75 was an older bloke, had the car serviced at a Rover independent, all service history done and only done 49k miles. In very clean condition and the engine bay is absolutely spotless for a 6 year old car. Averages about 28mpg around town, closer to 40 on a long run.

Turbo is a light pressure boost version and kicks in after 2.5k rpm, to be honest I drive like a nun on her period anyway so my fuel economy is more important than powerrrrrr.

I check my water level, oil level and oil filler cap for mayo religiously every weekend. Had the car for 8 months now and I am extremely pleased with it. Only thing I don't like is the colour, it's gold but I can live with it.

You should have the CDTi then! :p

the 135 bhp CDti are very sought after and command a large premium over the 1.8s. I only do 4-5000 miles per year in my Rover, so it wasn't worth getting the BMW diesel engined version.

I just waft around in the 75, but the old girl will pick up very nicely after the revs go past 2.5k.
