IS VPower Diesel worth the few p per litre premium over normal Shell diesel ?

I know it isnt for the cars ive had in the past, but they have all been N/A small engined petrol cars, the largest was a 2.0 golf gti, and I ran it on Optimax all the time (noob)

A mate of mine works for Honda UK, and I asked him about this when I bought my Accord iCTDi a while back.

Apparently the general consensus there is you get (on Accords / Civics) "a bit better MPG on long runs, but short trips around town there isn't much difference over normal diesel".

Hardly conclusive, but he just uses normal Asda/Sainsburys diesel in his as he does mostly town driving. I tried V-Power a few times as I do really long distance, but I never made any records of mileage etc so I couldn't say for sure how much difference it makes.

No idea at all about whether it keeps your engine cleaner inside, that's another question I suppose.

No, not worth the extra money, it will never pay back as there are no real world provable gains...snake oil, pure snake oil.

I was wondering this too. I know I can't run the LCR on 95 RON without it feeling rough and bogged down, so V-POWER (petrol) all the way.

But with me picking up a dirty diseasle this weekend, I was unsure if it was worth plumping for. I guess I'll just have to suck it and see.

I've never seen a scientific analysis of Ultimate Diesel/V Power Diesel, however...

I have seen a few colloquial analyses of the difference and they have generally reported a 3-5% increase in MPG. Placebo effect? Maybe. Snake oil? Quite possibly.

I thought that using Shell/BP etc over supermarket fuel makes a difference, but unless your car is designed for it V-power over normal makes no difference.

I've noticed no discernable difference in the works van.
Doesn't stop me filling up with every time to **** off the transport manager and get free toys :D

What is the difference between that and normal diesel? Obv the petrol is higher RON, is there a diesel equivalent?

AFAIK with V-Power Diesel, its just the injector cleaning agents that make the difference between standard and V-Power. No calorific values to mention IIRC.

I thought it had a higher cetane rating?

I vaguely remember reading a magazine article a while back showing decent gains (over 5%) in the power output of the more highly strung diesels. Can't remember what they tested but I seem to remember the 170BHP TDi Octavia vRS being one of them?
